From the main page of the site: "I'm not a big fan of the USGA philosophy. There's a line between rewarding good shots and good shots not being rewarding, and they seem to cross the line where good shots don't get rewarded." -- PGA golfer Fred Funk

Despite his negative attitude toward the USGA, Funk is one of the tour leaders in driving accuracy, which comes in handy for the US Open - i.e. see Jeff Maggert thru 10.

OT:

Interesting. I was up at 3 AM one night watching Golf Central I think on the Golf Channel. They had Peter Jacobsen and the teacher from Texas Jim Hardy on the show talking about one and two plan swings. It's interesting because Olin Browne was actually one of the guys that Jim Hardy worked with. Shot a 59 in the final round of the qualifier and now leads the US Open first round at 46 years old.

Maybe this Jim Hardy guy is on to something....He has a book out, maybe I'll buy it.

Hardy has converted both Jacobsen and Brown into "one plane" players.

Oh dear God, please don't let Robert Allenby be the only one on my team to make the cut. Just shoot 90 tomorrow (with three eagles, please) and get my weekend over with early.

Anyone know why David Howell withdrew? On the one hand, I hope nothing really bad happened. On the other hand, if nothing bad happened, it's really hard NOT to wish something bad would happen soon since he was on my team...

PINEHURST, N.C. (AP) — Young British stars David Howell and Paul Casey withdrew from the U.S. Open before the second round began Friday, with Howell tearing an oblique muscle on the driving range and Casey undoubtedly unhappy after an 85 a day earlier.

I think the cut line for this week is the top 60 plus ties, plus anyone within 10 strokes of the lead.

Thanks jseth - I can't image how depressing that must be in Howell's case. Too bad.

Way to take care of "business", Mr. Allenby. That should be safely above the cut line, I hope.

Now I just need a few more 4-birdie, 12-bogey "performances" out of my other three and I'll be content. (Until Sunday night when I see how much money I lost, that is.)

Where does everyone think the cut will end up? Kind of looks like a +6 might not be far off. That would make Lefty safe and Love III would just miss out.

It wouldn't surprise me if +7 even survives. Someone will have to get to at least -4 to take them out, and I'm not convinced that the current leaders are likely to shoot red numbers again. Goosen could get there, however.

Right now, 56 golfers are +4 or better, and the leaders are still -3 on the front-9.

If the round-2 leader is in at -6 or better, I'd say +5 would be the cut if 'top 60 and ties' is the only criteria. If the leader is lower and 'all within 10 strokes' are included, it could be more.

If the cut were done this moment, the +5's would already be in. I can't see them dropping out of contention. That would require the field to shoot under par.

The group at +6 are currently tied for 72nd. Can they move up to a tie for 60 or better? That doesn't seem like a stretch. It actually seems rather likely to me.

JeffG - looks like you've got a pretty good worst ball going today. I jones can fill in 4,6, and 7 for you you'll have it covered.

My wb team is actually doing better than my best ball team.

Besides Goosen, I wouldn't count Tiger out of getting to -4 either. Not likely the ways things have been playing so far, but well within his capablility for sure.

Well currently my best ball score is +7 and my worst ball score is +9.

Thanks Lefty, I guess he won't be trying for his second major this time. Would have been nice after losing to Payne Stewart at this course.

So much for Woods going to -4, but Goosen clearly still has a chance at -3 thru 12

My foursome could only manage 6 birdies between them today - fortunately all unique. They all all collided with a bogey on 15. Yet, they all made the cut. Go figure.

Re: #17... nice call, genius. Two of my stiffs that shot 76 the opening day made the cut at +7.

Uh-oh.

I've managed to have two best-ball bogies this week so far... odds are it won't be the last.

The final pairing on the final day shoot a combined +25, has to be the worst showing (day) all-time.

Congratulations Blinker for winning the best ball for the US Open with your Green Hornet team and to Barrington for worst ball with your wb-barrington team.

I was surprised when I looked this morning at my worst ball team and saw a wb score for the final round of all bogies except for the par3 15th. You would figure that out of 4 golfers one of them would have bogied a par 3, escpecially when you condsider that the 4 of them (Maggert/Browne/ArmourIII/Ogilvy) only managed 2 birdies between them all day!

A +66 WB score - how about that? Had given up playing this season when I received an email from Guru telling me I had "won" the WB contest. Obviously a lot of skill went into selecting my golfers last week.

Anyway, now I will have enough balls to make it through a whole round.
