Subject: Assimilator Roster Enhancement
Posted by: Guru
- [330592710] Tue, Dec 09, 2003, 16:31
Gurupie penngray made a suggestion yesterday that, frankly, I had never considered. I think it's a winner.
I've implemented the ability to import a roster directly from the TSN Hoops site. All you need to supply is the TEAM_ID.
The Assimilator is only able to copy the most recent frozen roster, so if any trades have been made since the previous night's freeze, those player trades will not be reflected. However, the cash balance will always be the current balance, and in the case of post-freeze trades, will need to be adjusted.
I've got a beta version of the Assimilator posted for you to try. Here is the URL: http://rotoguru2.com/hoop/jscript/hoopborg.html
Give it a test drive and let me know what you think. Any glitches? In addition to facilitating management of your own teams, this may be helpful in doing Assimilator analysis on your competition, since it avoids the tedious job of manually entering rosters.
Once I get this working correctly, I'll look into the same option for PS Challenge rosters. |

Guru, looks good. One little thing, in the 21 day look ahead schedule it defaults to Dec 8th as the first day. This is probably due to looking at yesterday's frozen roster. You can change it easily though by inputting the date you want. Another great enhancement!

One of the reasons I wanted this is because I like to look at my competitions rosters in the simulator also to compare. This is saving so much time!

I forgot to update the stats for today in this beta version, which is why it defaults to yesterday. I'll update it momentarily.

Guru, Would it be possible to Add the Number of trades to the Assimilator?
penngray - good idea about importing from TSN. Funny how I've thought about that several times, but never took the time to ask. (;

UKFan - Sounds like a browser/pop-up control issue. Turn off any pop-up blockers then close all IE windows and try again. Or reboot.
After that, I am out of ideas.
Jeff - you open the beta (see link in above post) version of the assimilator. Then, there is a button that you need to click that will prompt for a team name.

Guru, Just another Assimilator thought. Instead of asking for the team_id each time can you store the team_id in a cookie when you save your roster?

OK, I attempted to give rosters a "memory". If you save a roster that was copied over from TSN, it should remember its own team_id number the next time you try to copy it over.
This change only impacts team rosters that are saved from now on. If you copied a team from TSN last night or earlier this morning, it will not have a memory of its source. Only newly saved rosters have this capability.
So, to get your id numbers stored, copy in each roster now, and then save it in the assimilator.
When you copy in a roster, the TSN name of the team will be the default name of the roster. If you then save it in the Assimilator, you can change the name if you wish. Thereafter, if you recopy that team from TSN, the Assimilator name will not change. However, the dialog box will confirm the TSN name of the team that was loaded.
Example: My 500K team is named "rotoguru0.com" on the TSN site. If I copy it into the Assimilator, it initially assumes the "rotoguru0.com" name, but I can then save it in the Assimilator under the name "500 K". Now, the next time I load this team and copy the updated TSN roster in, it will retain the name "500 K". However, when the roster is copied in, the final dialog box will confirm that the roster copied was "rotoguru0.com".
Thus, you don't need to store your assimilator rosters under the same names used at TSN.
Please let me know if you discover any glitches. Also, let me know if you think anything is counterintuitive. I've tried to make this as intuitive as I can, but I am too involved to be a good judge of that.

There is now another button which allows you to copy a PSC roster into the Assimilator. PCS relies on team name rather than a number, so make sure you get the spelling right. Again, once a roster is copied and saved, it will remember where it came from, so you should only need to type in the whole name once.
I think it's all working OK, but let me now if something seems amiss.

I'm amazed at what computers can do!!!! Thanks Guru!!!! One minor glich though... Everytime I seem to use this thing it "overprojects" my point total. Last night for example it projects I will score 248 points and my team actual scores 238 (thanks mainly to Pau Gasul). Usually the gap is larger than 10 TSNP but there is almost always a gap. I'm sure its nothing wrong with the programing on your part. Is there anything I can do to my system to correct that glich??

Yes - you should reduce the points projected for each player immediately after you pick him up! Just click on a player's point avg. in the upper section, and change it to something lower. If it isn't low enugh the first time, then repeat the process. After much trial and error, you'll end up with an accurate projection.

tsunami - I'll look into including the point total. I don't think I'd need to replace the name at the right end. In fact, I put that there because the for many people, the name on the left side has scrolled off the screen when looking at the right side.

I wonder if some element of the pop-up blocker is interfering?
