Subject: "Busiest Players" League
Posted by: KrazyKoalaBears
- [15023167] Tue, Oct 03, 2006, 11:25
I don't normally play fantasy basketball, but an idea was created in the Hockey forum for a "Busiest Players" league and I thought it'd be fun to do for basketball as well. The idea is to have the busiest players, not necessarily the best. In other words, instead of counting field goals made, you count field goals attempted with the idea that the guy with the most attempts was the busiest. Same with free throws, 3 pts, etc.
Here's the run-down...
10-12 Teams PG, SG, PF, SF, C, BN, BN, BN MIN, FGA, FTA, 3PTA, REB
And that's it. Obviously, the FA market will be quite big and I'm hoping that will help to make the league even more fun/active.
So, if you're interested, let me know |

In other words, the Ball Hog League.
Draft Iverson, Kobe, Marbury ...

Is there some way to make Turnovers a positive stat? So if you have the most turnovers, you actually get points?
Yahoo should think about us losers when they set their leagues up...lol

Any limits on games played? Without that, wouldn't it simply become a game of shuffling people in/out every day, often via free agent pickups?
Or maybe weekly roster moves would mitigate that?

I would be interested in possibly trying this out. I think the idea of having to set your roster once a week is a good idea. this would really cause you to look into the players you are starting, IE who has 5 games and who only has 2 games this week. Would Ben Gordon for 5 games be better than 2 AI games? But yes I'd be interested

in hockey play roto style with an 82 game limit. So I am sure that hoops would be the same.

82 game limit, for sure. Also, daily moves to play matchups, since matchups will become part of the strategy to maximize stats.
Kyle and pfb, you should have email from me.

I'm still looking for 2 more people. If I can't get two more people, I'll likely expand rosters to have two of each position.
Unless anybody has any objections, why don't we set the "clock-off" start time for Wednesday, Oct 18 at 9 am ET. I'll start the clock Thursday, Oct 19 at 9 am ET with a 6 hour clock.
Draft Pauses will be 11 pm ET to 9 am ET and 11 pm ET on Friday to 9 am ET on Monday.
If there are any objections/suggestions, just let me know.
pfb, I can certainly help out as needed.

Anyone interested?

I was hoping we could get the last few rounds done over the weekend but it looks like we have had way to many stalls. I left a queue and a cell number with KKB to cover my last picks. I will be back on Wednesday but I am sure the draft will be done by then.

FWIW, Here are the standings according ONLY to Rotowire projections after Round 5. This does NOT take into account whether or not everyone has a valid starting lineup.
1. Fred (of course! ;) 2. barilko6 3. jaydoghall 3. philflyboy 3. Philsphan 6. wolfer 6. RotoGuru 8. Dilligad 9. youngroman 10. cJTi07 11. Hedlund 12. Kyle321N
Interesting how many ties there are.

Yes, but there is a disparity in games played across all of the teams. Your starting five averages almost 80 games played per slot (as projected by RotoWire). So you have only 10 games remaining to max out. My starting five averages only about 75 games per player, so I can fill in an extra 25 games or so.
If you assume that each team will max out at 82 games per slot, and assume that the missing games are filled in by average players ranked 61-84, then you rank only #6. (I'll let you guess who ranks #1)
And, if you simply assume that every player plays 82 games and produces the same per-game average as they produced last season, then your team ranks #11.
I guess we might as well play the season out.

CONGRATS Guru! A well-deserved trophy for your Yahoo trophy case. :)
I decided to take a look at the standings and was actually quite surprised at what I found. I know you pretty much dominated the league most of the season, but was really surprised at how close the "margin of victory" in each category was. Assuming 82 GP per position for 5 positions (410 games)...
MIN: 0.571 Min/Gm over 2nd place FGA: 0.526 FGA/Gm over 2nd place FTA: 0.250 FTA/Gm over 2nd place 3PTA: 0.114 3PTA/Gm over 4th place REB: 0.019 REB/Gm over 4th place
To me, that's just amazing! I recognized at some point during the season that you were going to be hard to catch, but when you look at those averages, it makes your run just that much more spectacular, in my opinion.
Job well done!

Thanks. With all of the injuries during the year, I think I was able to find pretty good value in the F/A pool, adding guys like Iguodala, Al Jefferson, and Gerald Wallace at key times. Arenas was my MVP, playing every game until the bitter end. Even when he was having trouble scoring, he kept firing at the hoop!
None of my expected starters made it through the whole season unscathed - Arenas, Redd, Artest, Murphy/Villanueva (neither which lasted long), and Boozer - all had down times. PF was a difficult position for me until Jefferson emerged.
Baseball is going to be much more challenging.
