Since there is nothing to do !

Let's do the DoPe stuff week 4

We lost last week thanks to the inept performances of Mr.Beuerlein and Mr.-I-can't-catch-half-as-good-as-I-talk-Connell.

So these are week 4 Hark choices and most likely opponents. Tough game coming up. That's the reason I want to play banged up Griese, we need a good game from him. Blake will go if Griese is out (game time decision). Had to bring in a kicker since the Vikings have their off week.

Baseball Major Crisis
Yanks are slumping horribly and a lot of our Hitters also (Green) Injuries to Hammonds and Everett are of no help either.

On the other side our opponents Alou and Hidalgo are ripping the world apart.
And his relieve pitchers have not blown anything the last few weeks

Bottom Line
Our lead shrunk to 286 points and our pursuit has 14 Reliever and 59 Hitter games in hand with 10 days to go. (Virtual Lead is 1 in words one Point)
- It will come down to the fact if he can use up all his games (relieve and hitting)
- Our Hitters have to keep pace with theirs
- Each Team has 11 Starting Pitcher Games left and every start is crucial now. A complete game shutout can tip the scales in either direction)
(He has Randy, Burba, Elarton, Ashby and Milton)
(We have Maddux, D'Amico, Hampton, Pettitte, Mussina, Estes and Zito)

Hey Hark.

BASEBALL:

I will be crushed if you do not win Sandbox baseball. Obviously, this guy knew what he was doing all along, but he got really lucky in terms of the timing of the hitter slumps.

Okay, make sure you lean towards starting pitchers that are contending for a playoff spot. Motivation to win, I believe, matters. In that case, I like Maddux, Hampton and Zito mucho. Of course, D'Amico IS A MUST, because he IS god right now, and has a feeble opponent coming up (Pittsburgh). I like Pettitte against Detroit at home, too, and the yankees will snap out of it this weekend (fingers crossed!!!). Mussina. I am not sure who he is facing, but only start him if he's facing a loser opponent. I am not sure if Estes tomorrow is worthwhile; my guess is that he pitches 6 innings max.

FOOTBALL:

I would NOT count on Griese starting; it'll be a gametime decision according to Shanahan in Denver. You cannot gamble on this. Plus, he could play one series and inflame his shoulder and then you have nothing. Commit to Blake and hope the Saints defy logic and actually generate some offense. Philly will look to stuff Ricky Williams at the line (as New Orleans will do against Staley), and force Blake to pass. This will work in your favor.

Gus Frerrotte, the Broncos back-up, may not throw too well, so Rod Smith is not a gimme like he has been. Still, how you believe in Connell after his performances thus far? Keep Smith. He is elite and the Broncos chief deep threat.

Too bad Robert Smith is on bye week; Eddie George does not usually do too well against Pittsburgh (or so some Gurupie posted on the football boards). You have to keep those 3 guys.

Looks good to me. Stay with Blake. If Griese plays, you cannot kick yourself in the head. This is a risk you cannot take. Much to lose, potentially little to gain.

Blake over Griese makes sense and so will it be done ! (it bugs me though that we have the top rated QB in the game and he has not started a game for us yet - Beuerlein got the nod 3 times)

On Baseball
It's frightening !
yesterday was a hitters only night.
Our guys scored 29 points for the 8 guys we had going (that's a real good performance as the tops team average for the season is 3.2 points per hitter/game). At the same time he scored 59 points for 9 hitters ! Awesome ! and it's like this or worse for almost two weeks now.

If not for our Pitchers, especially Maddux we would be out of the race by now.

Let's start a curse on the 'Stros !
