Thought I'd do a post to see how all the EFF members have enjoyed the off season.
Frank p where have you been? Hopefully you were not coldcocked in some pub by Chad Henry!
What's this preseason draft all about? And how's the search for a better EFF fantasy site progressing?
Myself I am having an enormous struggle trying to live up to last years performance in SW Hockey. Jagr is clearly not the gravy train for my wheaton snipes he was last year, although I was stubborn enough to hold him for his last 150 pt outing.
Finally here's some snipets I came across on the AFL website to wet our EFF appetites during the offseason on the subject of drinking, brawling, and Footy. The story is actually a sad one but the prose is excellent:

"Even sadder is the fact his life has run off the rails. A downhill spiral turned to freefall, ending with the ultimate embarrassment late last week of a court appearance, conviction on a serious charge, and a custodial sentence.

If Owen is guilty as charged, as County Court Judge Betty King found, he deserves everything he got. Perhaps more. Punching someone senseless is bad enough; kicking someone to the face cannot be excused in any circumstances. It is pathetic, disgraceful behavior that can't be justified by a chronic drinking problem.

What is embarrassing for the Saints is the fact they were informed in clear, concise terms when Owen was still a teenager that he required professional help for his drinking problem.

In the space of a year or two, Owen became a league footballer at 16, lost his father, removed himself from the family unit, quit school, became a binge drinker and faced major injury problems.

''I just reckon the poor kid had no one to turn to,''Jewell said.

''He really had the talent of someone special. I often bump into him and he's just a lovely bloke; he really is a nice young fella, (but) the grog's been his problem.

''It's just a shame; the whole thing,'' Jewell said."

Everyone have a great holiday season.
:-)

edperl, good to see you here. I was rooting around a week ago, trying to find another footy fantasy site, but not coming up with anything. Only spent about 20 minutes looking, though, so I'm not satisfied yet!

Chad's Mother Puckers isn't doing so well these days. We need to hear from that guy again! Sadly, my intense time on the Politics Forum left me little hockey time, and while I've been making it up the last week or so it's going to be hard to get back into the top 100. Work work work!

Hello, gentlemen! Merry Christmas and Happy (and safe) New Year to you all!

I too have noticed somewhat of an absence of Frank p lately. Perhaps you've been working on some greens-keeping secrets for the footy fields. ;-). I trust all is going well for the EFF members. The hockey division certainly is tight. On any given day the 3rd thru 8th or 9th spots is separated by around 600 points. A great night by anyone can make things interesting. I was at fifth last week, but have since taken a turn for the worst.

I have done no looking for Aussie sites. Frankly (no pun intended), I was counting on Frank's expertise to find a good one. I think he mentioned finding one with trading (what a novel idea) last year. We have plenty of time.

pd, on a side note, you should be getting my gift for Paul's family in a few days. Thanks again for your help.

All the best to you and your families this holiday season!

Hello (G'day) to all,
I have been AWOL for a little while, after my housemate opened a virus and infected the hard drive in our computer. It took me 5 days to fix that little problem, but I am back and wasting SW trades just like before.
I haven't been posting on the hockey boards much lately as I feel the boards are a bit slow this year and some of the humour has been missing. I think some of the new guys take things a bit too seriously.
I did find a new Aussie Rules game, with trades, but I lost the URL when the computer crashed. The game site was still being put together but it sounded like the sort of thing we have been searching for, so I'll try to find it again.
Edperl, the pre-season draft is in two stages. The first gives the clubs a chance to pick up rookies and better players who have been de-listed by their clubs. The second is for guys who miss out on being selected in the first draft (ie. DUDS!!). Adelaide picked up two such players today, and good luck to them. Port Adelaide picked up 5 really good youngsters in the first draft and declined to select in the second one.
I hope to have more news on the site soon, and I hope to catch some of my old friends around a bit more often now.
I haven't heard anything from Chad, so I guess he's doing something to keep his feeble mind occupied. :))

ps. This is my worst SWH season ever!!
pps. All the best to everybody for the festive season and I will down many stubbies in your honors.
