Subject: New Fantasy Site Posted by: Frank p - [3147134] Tue, Feb 13, 14:38 The season is only a few weeks away, so I need everybody to check this site out and give their opinions. Looks like we get the opportunity to trade with other teams at certain times of the year. For those of us that aren't long-time fans it is kind of tough to make educated decisions about alternative players. Plus I think it means a little more time consumption than we're used to. I guess ideally I'd like something like last year in all respects, but with trading. Have you found anything like that? Of course, if the EFF as a group decides to do this league I will join in. Either way, the season will not be lacking in stubbie consumption or Big Jack watching. | |||||

Try this one. See what you think. You need to register to even get in the site but here's the deal. You draft 30 players, a specified number at each position, and you have a 140 dollar budget. Roster deadlines are on Fridays. You also get 15 trades to make throughout the entire season, something I like much better. The biggest drawback appears to be that the site is not capable of letting you form your own leauge among your friends. The site does calculate your weekly points for your team. Perhaps we could keep our own standings on the Aussie Rules board for those who participate, much like tipping. | 6 | edperl ID: 07422914 Wed, Feb 14, 17:05 | I just noticed one problem. I registered a team to check out the site, it was the only way. But I did not fill my roster. When I went back later to log in, it informed me that since I hadn't selected players my roster was invalid and I would have to register and select a new team. I guess we need to wait until we are completely ready to draft before registering. You can't wait and keep checking out the site like SmallWorld. Myself, my scouting staff is not quite prepared for draft day. The site still looks feasible despite this problem. Anyone else have the same problem, or any ideas? | |||||

Looks good edperl. I will go through this list and let you all know about players who have retired or have long term injuries. There is a retiree on the first page (Richard Champion), so it's probably loaded with guys you don't want to draft. | |||||

I asked Don once if he would consider it (c'mon, they do a Brazilian soccer page!), and he said they had it on their radar screen but had no immediate plans to do a game. It would be fun! Are you guys doing FunBets? I sent them an e-mail, and they are considering adding Aussie Rules matches to their betting events. I'd be surprised if they didn't, given the wide types of events they already include. pd | |||||

rugg, FunBets isn't a fantasy game, it's just you going in making bets on "events" which are mostly sporting games. They give you a million dollars and you can buy shares in event outcomes. For example, a couple weeks ago I bought shares in the Minnesota (which were cheap) when the Pittsburgh Penguins were coming to town. To back it up, I also shorted the Pens. Well, Minnesota won and I won a lot for that event. I hear you can win actual money too, but my own account is only up to like $1.62. Lately I have been spending some time here more footy boards and trying to find another fantasy game. It looks like one of the Moderators is putting together a fantasy game, so we may have another option. I'm happy to play the game that Edperl found, but I just want to see what this guy comes up with. Anyway check out the boards at Big Footy as they are pretty funny, but let me warn you that Aussies have a different attitude to swearing on the boards. I think as a safety net we ought to enter the old AFL league as well as try the new site. As I mentioned before, when you enter your team on the new site you have to be ready to select your entire roster or it will not acknowledge you if you do it partially and try to return. Perhaps frank p could post some roster assistance, i.e. who the relable studs are at each position, and those available that are injured or no longer in the AFL. | |||||
