I vote that we join the afl.com Premier Fantasy League again, as well as the eperl site. I believe our division was "EFF" and the password was "gurupies". If I don't set up the division first, whoever does, make sure to use those words. Any objections? I'm open to any suggestions. |

Well, I went to afl.com.au and clicked Fantasy Footy and entered my name and password from last year and got this message:
"Fantasy Footy will return in the week of the Ansett Cup Grand Final. Two reasons - we're giving you time to check out the talent during Ansett Cup before picking your squads for the season - and secondly, Fantasy Footy will be part of a complete redesign of AFL.com.au that we'll launch in mid-March.
So Fantasy Footy will be back, bigger and looking better than ever."
So I guess we have to wait a few days to sign up there.

I tried picking my team today, but the page was down. I'm still not sure that their server will be able to handle the load on a Friday afternoon. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I also picked my team for edperl's site today. Looks like a good game, but I can't figure out how to change players from the bench to my starting line up. Anyone have any ideas?

I've returned from a short vacation and have finally selected my squads.
MEMBERS OF THE EFF PLEASE POST YOUR TEAM NAME
All those entered in the ozsportnet league please let us know your team name. Apparently we must work on the honor system with each member posting his team's results, and then someone will compile the league standings. I know I've recruited some new players from my office who will be participating here on the board.
The AFL site will manage itself. It should be interesting to see the difference in scoring systems, and which players will do better under which point scheme. I know I have a lot of the same players in each league. I'll get it started here: My Team Perl Pigeons (pre-season favourite to win the Premiership).

Any word on whether the winner of last years EFF group will be joining this year? I believe that he finished around 50th in the league. He certainly helped our group average last year.

My team is the Chicken Molesters in both games.

I'm in the EFF under Beezer's Rules Football. Looks like I've got a lot of injuries and non-selects to deal with. That's what I get for trying to draft in a proper AFL spirit after a couple of drinks. :)

I'm in the AFL game, EFF group, as the Detroit Clueless. Glad I made it in.
I've got a couple of non-selects also. What is a non-select?

Winmiller, a non-select is just a guy who didn't make it into his team for this week.

Sorry I'm late. I'm the Capones, a tribute to Chicago and our storied and sordid history.

Next question,
When do they announce who has been selected, and where do I find that information?
I went with the Guru's barbell strategy and had a decent enough opening week, I think. Not to mention that doing draft research three times because of website problems helped.
Barbell strategy - take a bunch of expensive players, a bunch of cheap players, and ignore the middle.

Winmiller, I think the barbell strategy will do just fine in this game. Every Thursday night, Aussie time, the teams release their squads for the weekend and they should be on the official AFL site which is on the pull-down menu. I also suggest putting your team into the new game, as I think this one will be much more interactive for us all.
