0 Subject: WHAT'S OUR DIVISION?

I have my team picked and am entered but when I tried to join "EFF" division with password "gurupies" I was told the division didn't exist. Unless someone tells me of a different name and password for the division I will go ahead and create it like that. OK? Let me know as soon as possible. Thanks.

Rugg, go ahead and create at will. I couldn't even find where the create division section was, and I was sober.

Hi, Frank. It's all done. Division name is "EFF" and password is "gurupies". After picking your team and entering it in competition, you go to "Your Group". At that point you can join one or create one. It should be all set. I'll pick Ms. Pez's team tomorrow. That part sucks, because I want to pick a good team for her but not too many of the same players that I have so we have some good competition. The problem is I know that for whatever reasons her team will probably beat mine. Oh well.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!

Come on, people, let's get those teams picked and signed up to the division. We need four teams to get a division ranking. I know edperl tends to shy away from competition, but you got to get back into Footy mode. We anxiously await the pulling of the first "perl" of the season. ;-)

It looks like you have to pick the team first, then enter the division (love the Quick Start Option, BTW). As soon as I nail down my guys I'll be in -- probably tonight.

Gobster,

Sorry, we're not being too informative these days, it seems! Thanks for your insistance!

We're in a division in the official Australian Rules Football League site, www.afl.com.au. The second pull down menu above has the "official AFL website" which will get you in the front door. Click "fantasy footy" and you are in.

Hope this helps.

All right - I'm nearly clueless on Aussie Rules football, but I am thinking that I will sign up.
Any sport where rugged men beat each other to a pulp over possesion of an irregularly-shaped ball is good enough for me. :-)

Got any tips on how to go about drafting up a team?

Winmiller, welcome to our group of devoted footy heads. My advice would be to pick as many of the high priced players as possible and stock up on the lower priced rookies to enable you to do this. When you pick your squad, you will have to pick 5 players from each price range, but then you may change your team to any combination.
I have not entered my team yet, but from a quick look at the players, I think that there is not a lot of good picks in the mid range guys. Last years studs are all high priced and they are still your best bet.
I'm sure the AFL site has a list of last years leaders in each stats category, so those players are a good start.
I'll be back from work and study later, so if you have any questions, I'll do my best to help.
My team should be finalised by tomorrow, so the rest of you stubbie drinkers can have a look at a real good team. ;)

winmiller, I printed out the last two all star teams and tried to get as many of those guys as I could. Other than that, you can view a little blurb about each player by clicking on their name. It helps give an idea if they are expected to do well. Some guys that are good from last year, (frank, here's where you help ;-)) are Shane Crawford, Peter Bell, Matthew Lloyd, Jason Akermanis, Anthony Koudifides, Nathan Buckley, and I'm kind of blanking on more. Those are a good start, though. There's lots of choices. If you're like me, you'll pick apparently great players that have a knack of getting hurt every third or fourth week.

We also have to get our tipping competition set up on afl. I will try to get it set up the same as the division.

By the way, hey frank, if any of the names I mentioned are no longer good picks please let us know. Thanks.

My team's in. Looks like a fun learning experience, and hopefully I can hang in there at least. Good luck everyone.

Rugg, your player suggestions are pretty good. Crawford, M. Allan & R. Harvey are very reasonably priced as they all seem to be fully fit this season. I would be cautious about Koutafides, as he is recovering from a serious knee injury and although he is likely to play in the first round, his fitness is of major concern. If you can afford to hold him for a few games, then he's worth the risk. Akermanis is, in my opinion, too expensive. Basically though, I think all the top priced players are a safe bet.

Thanks, frank, but I wish I checked more into Koutafieds before buying him. Hope he can keep fit.

I've put an evening into creating a squad, and all I get when I try to submit it is an error message in code. My first effort got timed out. If this one doesn't go through, I may just have to give up.

Winmiller, I'll see what I can find out. Remember it's afternoon here and they may be updating the site.

Thanks Frank P. If it helps any, this is the actual message on the screen:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d'

Type mismatch: 'addFFUser'

/ffooty/pickteam_confirm.asp, line 73

This comes up when I try to name and confirm my team.

Sorry winmiller, but I couldn't get any info on that message. My advice would be to try again and hopefully everything wil be back to normal.

Finally, I'm in. I think the squad I selected last night was a bit better, but I got in this time. This is the third squad I've tailored, so maybe this will work out. Looking forward to it.
