Well friends, Rugg has picked the perfect eight. Congradulations are in order. But before the grandstanding sets in, rugg needs to know that his abilities are no better than a dog. Read on:

A Footscray bus driver and his dog are fast becoming media identities as a result of the canine's ability to pick a winner. The dog owner, Greg Smith, swears by his
black labradoodle (Labrador-Poodle cross) Cozzmo. According to Smith, Cozzmo indicates his tips by wagging his tail or pawing his owner when the matches are read out to him. The unusual tipping duo went into round seven with 33 correct predictions out of a possible 48. The dog sign language is easy to interpret according to Smith, who turned to Cozzmo for advice after the dog showed a good track record for divining winning horses. Smith says the dog is better at picking winners than he is and after little success himself, in frustration, one day looked at the dog and read out the teams. Says Smith, "Whatever team out of the two gets the best reaction - if he gives me a lick, or wags his tail or dances around - that's the team I pick."
Smith and the dog he bought four years ago for his wife, Yvonne, are entered in the footy tipping competition separately, a decision the human half of the team is starting to regret. The pooch is one point ahead of his owner. The two are in first and second place currently in a pub comp.
Smith also commented, "I'm worried about this weekend because he's picked Fremantle. I think he's blown it."Opinion is divided between the pub's other 36 football punters, over what should happen to the booty if Cozzmo wins the overall competition. Should the $412 first prize go to the dog's owner or the hotel patrons?"My opinion is that we buy the dog a couple of steaks and put the rest over the bar," said Mr. Smith's "manager" Kevin Burke, who runs the tipping competition. "Everyone in the pub wants him to win because they'll all get a beer."Predictably, Cozzmo is a longtime fan of hometown heroes, the Western Bulldogs, but has tipped against them for the first time this week, predicting a Collingwood victory. Smith has yet to secure an invitation onto Channel 9's Footy Show but thinks Cozzmo could give Sam Newman a run for his money, providing he doesn't get stage fright. The Smith clan, which includes six children aged 15 to 23, are excited about the media attention their family pet is receiving."They're rapt," says Smith, whose 16 year-old daughter Allison is a contortionist and high flyer traveling in Brisbane with a division of the Ashton Circus. "She wants the paper sent up to her." The rest of us just want Cozzmo's hot tips, which this week list Essendon, West Coast, Hawthorn, Sydney, Fremantle, Brisbane, Melbourne and Collingwood to bring home the
goods.
