Draft has started, untimed for the first round. After that we'll be going to a 4-hour clock.
Ohtani is one guy in this draft, a DH. I don't think we have to worry about the pitcher this year.

not sure where else to post this but I gotta vent to someone. the quality of writing and analysis by the guys who write fantasy player news has gotten soooo bad. A lot of it is utter garbage. I should start a blog that covers terrible fantasy player news posts, but I won't.
Just an example of a recent one:
"as indicated by his .315/.377/.453 slash line and .138 ISO. After the trade, his numbers dipped to .243/.317/.304, with a much lower ISO of .061. However, this decline can be largely attributed to a significant decrease in his BABIP, dropping from .381 to .288."
As if BABIP for a hitter is pure luck and has nothing to do with skill and performance. I see this one all the time along with all kinds of other weird assessments and factual errors. Maybe these are unpaid or extremely low pay positions.

yesterday I was looking for updates on Eury Perez' recent elbow injury and at the top of the search page there was a very long article which inaccurately called it a shoulder injury then had a long analysis and statistics on shoulder injuries. So bad.

In recent years, I believe we were only permitted to use our IL slot for players that we drafted (and who we've rostered for the entire season). Is that still the case?

you can IL a player you drafted and you can IL a player who is on your roster and then gets hurt. Can't pick up a hurt player then move them to IL.

The really frustrating thing for me is my offense is fantastic. 66.5 points on offense, and that's with losing my 3rd round pick and my worst player being my 2nd round pick.
But 5.5 points on pitching, all last place (one tie for last place). I've never seen anything like it.
I also have only 3 wins from my starters. On the bright side, I have reduced my ERA by half a run from last week, and my WHIP by .10... now at 6.1 and 1.5 respectively. LOL

Still picking up the pieces of the most horrid pitching start in my fantasy history. my ERA is down another run and WHIP down another tenth, and still in last place in both. This is all attributed to 4 draft picks; Brown, Smith, Maeda, and Canning, needless to say all long gone. Combined they produced:
77.2 IP, 1 W, 1 SV, 64 K, 74 ER, 143 BR, 8.57 ERA, 1.84 WHIP
Those innings account for a third of my total innings so far. The other 2/3rds sports 12 W, 4 SV, 154K, 3.43 ERA and 1.12 WHIP.

a quarter of the way through the season, just mulling over how bad mlb hitters have been, particularly mine. The ball seems pretty dead this season in general but dang. I'm down to only 8 of my drafted hitters left on my roster. God bless Duran and Cronenworth. Maybe the other guys will start hitting when summer comes along?

13. Jarred Kelenic hit ok early on but gets benched several days in a row and platooned in middle of games even though he doesn't have bad splits historically, MLB managers quite often seem like dipshits to me, sure hit him 9th and give him zero AB vs. lefties all season, recipe for success
16. Bo Naylor dropped, may need to get a taste of AAA again
17. Davis Schneider .383/.475 had to force his way into the lineup
18. Jake Fraley .363/.389 started out well but gets benched for right handed hitters even though they can't hit lefties, had some illness for a week and been hitting like a little girl since then
19. Chris Taylor think he was like 1 for 45 at some point, can't blame it on a dead ball when you don't even hit the ball
21. Jake Cronenworth .358/500 amazing
24. LaMonte Wade disposable
25. Charlie Blackmon I think he may have been out of the league years ago if he played anywhere below a mile elevation
baseball gets a little weirder every year I have to say.

you can see the uptick around 1920 (Babe Ruth era begins), the lull during WWII, the raised pitching mound of '68, the steroid era, and so far this season the lowest league slug % since '92.

I'm pretty sure they have mucked with the baseball every year for the last 5 years, tuning it, overtuning it, undertuning it. That's why we are seeing numbers all over the place from year to year.
From a fantasy perspective it makes it near impossible to project players from year to year because you don't know what they are going to do with the ball.

Possibly the closest finish ever: I was rooting for Jesse Chavez to pitch the 9th for Atlanta so that the RIBC outcome would be decided by the final inning of the final game.

thanks guys. I think if twilson had just picked up one more save he would have won. with 2 or 3 weeks to go I could see there was a fair chance that my team would drop to 2nd or 3rd place depending on how wins, saves, and k's turned out. with twilson's streamers pitching like the ghost of sandy koufax I'm surprised how it turned out actually.
went back and looked at the final standings from the early RIBC's, 20 yrs back. the dropoff in offense and increase in strikeouts is so huge.
nerf, did anyone have a good draft? someone must have but not me. Jose Ramirez, Jarren Duran, and Nestor Cortes, and Cronenworth were the only dudes I drafted that were worth what I paid. Honestly don't know how some of you kept whip and era so low. every time I started to work mine back down I'd have another starter or closer implosion, even against teams like white sox or angels.
also, next year I want that Ohtani guy on my team.

Congrats! i feel like i had one of my best draft/lineups ever and it still never felt quite like enough to get over the hump and make a serious charge.
Just shows how difficult this thing is. Well deserved!

It was ridiculous how terrible this draft was.
Soto - just fine.
Jones - out much of the year and terrible the rest of the time.
McClain - out the entire year from some random elbow thing in the Spring, and never came back. I kept him though the entire year until it didnt matter if I did or not.
Bellinger - okay, not worth a 4th
Hoerner - same
Sewald - hurt, then lost his job. Had no saves down the stretch
Muncy - great but only played 71 games
Steele - good but missed some time
Sale - best pick of the draft
Green - fine, missed some time
Leclerc - never got the job
Burger - okay
Brown - awful the first month and I dropped him. Not sure what he did after that. Im sure he was Mr Cy for someone else.
Smith - never got the job
E Rod - hurt before season started. never played for me
Marte - ok but only played about half the season
Westburg - good but got hurt.
Maeda - awful, dropped
Heim - Not good
Canning - awful, dumped
Almost all of these guys missed time. There were points of the season where I had entire bench of draftees and playing all FA scrubs. I had to replace 4 of my SP before May 15th. You can see what they did collectively in a previous post. Just... abysmal.
