Subject: Vote for the next Guru Jr.
Posted by: allhair, Guru Jr.
- [5734610] Fri, Sep 07, 11:46
First of all, let me say that I’m proud to have held the office of Guru Jr. during this last term. I’m lucky enough to have been recognized twice by the Boards and it is just as gratifying the second time around.
I’ve read on the boards that some people feel that handing out the award from week to week means that the “office” of Guru Jr. will be greatly diminished by the end of the season because there just aren’t enough worthy candidates from which to choose. This is baloney. In fact, last year we ran out of weeks and actually had co-Guru Jrs. just to fit them all in. I agree with azdbacker when he says that there are still plenty of well-qualified people out there that are worthy of the Guru Jr. title. We just need to make sure we identify them and reward them for their great work.
Another thing I’ve read on the boards in the past is that RotoGuru.com is solely a sports site and that all the other, non-sports related talk is just chaff. I couldn’t disagree more. IMHO the Message Boards are the heart and soul of the site. There are other website message boards around that don’t have the “sense of community” that we have now (and is evident in even rarer form by the Golf Forum). Obviously RotoGuru.com is devoted to fantasy sports strategy, but the simple fact that we even have the Guru Jr. award seems proof positive that we’re more that just a disparate bunch of sport-crazed fans talking to ourselves. The Guru Jr. award was set up to acknowledge Gurupies whose contributions were deemed outstanding to the community as a whole by their peers. In the past Guru Jr. has been bestowed upon Gurupies whose contributions have come in the form of sports insight, statistical info, humor, superior managerial skills, groovy graphics posts, or even catching Small World cheating at its own game. The “ways” we contribute are endless, and the fact that these contributions are acknowledged shows that we value the Gurupies that make the extra effort to enhance our enjoyment of the game.
Finally, I’d like to thank Guru for continuously finding ways to not only keep this site afloat, but to also continuously find ways to improve our fantasy sports experience. And dagnabbit, I really AM going to buy that shirt and hat!!
Ok, enough of my ranting. Back to the voting…
Your nominees must show sign of Guru-like tendencies, which include but are not limited to statistical support, answering questions, and just being all-around good for the prosperity of this forum. The nominee can also show a sense of humor that makes this forum more enjoyable during hard times.
The winner gets the Guru Jr. nametag for 2 weeks and the honor of choosing the next Guru Jr. based on nominations.
The previous Guru Jr's for this year have been philliephan, Madman, KrazyKoalaBears, RecycledSpinalFluid, Richard, J, philflyboy, JKaye, Dr. Doom, bluehen, azdbacker, and myself.
Good luck!

My vote is for Perm Dude for his well written posts. I also appreciate the professional knowledge (as opposed to strictly sports knowledge) he brings to his posts.

Wow, is that a joke, Makisupa? I thought I've had an awful couple weeks, even calling BoSoxFan9 an idiot! [not my best moment :( ]
If not, thanks!

Maki, I'm not so sure we can make any assumptions about Perm Dude's humanity. I've played online cards with him before and he's definitely a Euchre-playing machine!!

I hate to say it because I always disagree with him (although he always has a more well-informed opinion and is immeasurably more knowledgeable), but ChicagoTRS gets my nomination of recognition this week. In every way so aptly outlined above by our eloquent out-going Jr., Chicago TRS emulates the qualities of "Guru Jr."
And bests to you Allhair Allstars. You ARE the Mohawk 'Fro, and epitomize the title of "Guru Jr." Thanks for everything this summer and have a Fu Manchu of a hoops season.

jumpball If THIS isn't "Guru-like tendencies", then I don't know what is. jumpball and Guru have set a standard for all LRV'ers that follow, and quite a standard it is.

have to go with Jumpball. tied for first in getting to 500k a feat never before accomplished. (That must be what caused all the problems with SW yesterday.) He is a great guy and a student of the game.

Dan has been a great contributor to the boards all year, and I would hate to see that go unrewarded. Who else would post the pricemovers at Midnight because someone asked for it? And he's now keeping up the very valuable Top 100 Review (which I would like to thank RSF for developing.)

I cannot believe the names that are still on the eligable list. While I feel I am flying crosswind in the face of the forming Consensus I must vote for Ender who developed a "burn them all" game that is driving me crazy.
