I've been little more than a lurker on these boards for several years now and I want to thank so many of you for all your help in so many sports.

Now onto my question...
For my birthday this year, my wife gave me a great surprise...a whirlwind baseball tour. The first weekend in June we are going to catch games in Detroit, Cleveland, and Pittsburg. Now that's an awesome present and all, but now she's asking if there are any other parks I'd like to get to this summer!

Here's the dilemna...we live in Cincinnati and she's already hit the closest places (plus the hometown Reds). Since we're still pretty fresh out of college, we don't have tons of vacation time to go touring around, so if I get to any other games it would have to be on a weekend. The first places that come to mind are St. Louis or Chicago. I looked quickly and didn't see a weekend with both the Cubs and Sox playing at home, so I won't be able to get a 2-for-1 there.

If you had to choose, which of these teams would you go see? Would any of these places be likely to have sold out for a weekend game already? I don't really care about the quality of the seat so much as the ambiance of the stadium. Thanks for your help/advice.

Wow, what a gift!! Can she email my wife, please? :)

I'd pick St. Louis, no question. If you have much trouble with tickets, it's not toooo much further to get to KC, where you could probably walk up at game time and get great seats. And it IS a great ballpark. Just pick a weekend with a visiting team you like :)

Wrigley! If you are looking for ambience! Never been to St. Louis however. The new Kamiskey's just a box. Come to think of it, so was the old one.

If you've been to Riverfront, you've pretty much been to Commiskey. Of course, Commiskey is open concourse, but it's pretty generic. If you can get to Wrigley, do it. Bleacher seats will be hard to come by, but that shouldn't preclude you from enjoying the venue. I've never been to Busch, but would love to some time myself.

My best buddy left San Diego for St. Louis, and he raves about Busch all the time.
He says it is a great venue for a ballgame, and I trust his judgement implicitly.
Have been to Wrigley, and it is great, but if I had to pick, think I would go the St. Louis route.

Wrigley is a great park for you can just smell the grass and there isn't really a bad seat in the place. As for Busch my friends go to St. Louis every summer to catch a Cards game and haven't had any trouble getting tickets. They also say it is the best park they have been to but he is a Cards fan.

As for the White Sox new park my Brother-in-law says the parked sucked. Seating was cramped and there was little room. Steps were steep and the climb almost killed them. The view sucked and he said he would of been closer to the field by standing in the street.

Wrigley. Don't worry about missing the Sox; it'll be worth it.

KC also has a really nice stadium, and you'll probably get to see at least one Major League team, unless the Royals are playing the O's or Devil Rays.

I've never been to Busch in St. Louis, but I hear it's a nice experience. The stadium isn't much, but the crowd is great.

Milwaukee is supposedly the most intimate of the new parks (and thus, the most intimate of all parks), so it might be interesting to get good seats there. Of course, you have to watch the Brewers.

Other than that, I'd recommend taking advantage of a densely populated minor league baseball region. I don't know much about who is out there, but minor league stadiums are a great break in your major league tour.

I can vouvh for Miller Park in Milwaukee as well. It is a great place to see a ball game, nice atmosphere, comfortable seats, great food,...

It sounds like you can't go wrong with Wrigley, Busch, or Miller. I would still say that if you haven't ever been to Wrigley you ought to take the opportunity, but you'll enjoy it wherever you end up.

Buffalo's got a great AAA park, though you have to go to Buffalo...

Could head to Toronta after though!

Skydome is nice too. Except, to paraphrase Mr. ruben, you have to go to Canada.

Thanks for the help...
The wife's a little partial towards Wrigley, but I'll have to look a little closer at Busch now. I'm not sure how far away Milwaukee is from Cincinnati, but I'm guessing that it's a pretty long drive. I'll have to look into that too.

RE#9...lol

Thanks again!

Cincy to Milwaukee will run you 7 to 7.5 hrs straight through. Fortunately it can be done all via interstate (74, 465, 65, 94, 794). Cincy to Chicago should be 5.5 to 6 hrs also all interstate until you get to the north side of Chicago.

Ender, thanks for the info! Any guess on how long it takes to go from Chicago to Milwaukee? I'm getting an idea here... :)
