To me, a vital thing to being a Gurupie is the sharing of knowledge and tools. The most obvious tools are the great stuff supplied by Guru, himself, such as the Sortable Stats (sartibles), Sched-o-matic and Assimilator.

Other tools would be stuff like your favorite stat site or website where you get great "inside" info (player updates), things like that.

Lets not forget any spreadsheets or Applications you have or have written. The more tools the better.

Show 'em if you got 'em.

In keeping with the sharing knowledge idea, here are a couple of spreadsheets I have developed/Modified for Stallworld Baseball 2002.
The ground rules for my stuff:
1.) I designed these in Excel 97, so that is all that I care they work in. If they work in other newer versions, great, let others know, but I won't be modifying it to do so. If you do modify it to work in other versions, supply it to others. Kind of an open source rule. My reason for this is Excel 97 loads Web Pages 80-90% faster than newer version (go figure).

2.) If you use the thread maker parts, when posting, please select YES (for HTML table input) before clicking . This will save you many, many head aches.

3.) If something is broke, let us know here, and maybe it can be fixed. Possibly. Some days/weeks are better than others. Be sure to post the OS you are using, the Excel version (just to be sure) and the EXACT error message. That will make it a little easier to troubleshoot.

MLB_Pricemovers_2002_v003.zip (114K): This is a spreadsheet to pull in the daily Smallworld PriceMovers for posting on the boards. It makes a fairly nice (IMO) table with links to Guru's player pages, as well as RotoWorld's player pages. It is for both the Basic and Pay games (user set parameter).

MLB_Division_Tracker_2002_Pay_014.zip (249K): This is a spreadsheet designed to track Smallworld Pay game team information that is available on the Frozen Rosters. Could be used for tracking just your teams or your division's teams, etc. It is currently seeded with 616 randomly generated teams (although, there are some interesting people in the bunch).

Good Luck and to you...

Dan's a tool, that's for sure...

Wouldn't exactly say a useful or helpful tool, but a tool nonetheless.

One other word of warning: My coding is terrible. These spreadsheets have evolved over the past 3-4-5-however long it has been-years. A lot of patch work stuff in there. They could (should) be complete rewritten from scratch, but I for one, don't really want to do that right now.

Wow rsf! All I do is check my horoscope, cross it with my biorhythms and adjust it for the waxing or waning of the moon. Then I say a prayer and throw a dart at a board of probable pitchers. Now, if the dart doesn't land on Randy Johnson when his appearance is scheduled, I know sun spots are interfering with a clear signal and I have to revert to the less-than-perfect gravitational pull effect (GPE) which, of course, I don't need to explain. But on days Randy isn't pitching, I have no good barometer of whether the sun spots are misleading me (unless I find someone with a dish tv and check the reception - but hey, that's not an exact science, now is it.)

KrazyKoalaBears, I think all you need to do is this:

In the ReadTeams SubRoutine, near the end, remark out this line:

Call produceGurupieRankChange

by putting a ' before the line.

LOL!

No, I found out that there are other problems I need to address with what I was doing anyhow, but thanks for the tip. I'm just tired of getting to team 610 of 616 and then having it crap out. UGH! ;)

You know, I swear, I think this stuff is optimized to only run on my machines. I shipped it to Dan and it locks up on his machine. It locks up on yours. I run it on my machine with no worries. And to think I was going to format that machine and reinstall everything. I don't think so...

I wonder what service pack of Office 97 I have. I'll have to look that up.

lol Tell me about it KKB. Though previously I had no problems getting it to 2000 without it freezing once. Its been the past few months that I've really experience problems with the SSs. Though I have been able to get it to finish off the 616 teams the odd time. Though I did have one other problem...I'll see if it comes up again.

Still working on my addition to the efforts, but with being gone all of last week, schoolwork is being brutal. Hopefully I can have something whipped up here soon though. Who needs to actually do projects anyway, right? @#;+)

Oh, and FWIW, Division Tracker worked fine on my ComCrap. Running Excel 97 and like a 380 Mhz chip inside. Just don't try running all 616 on dial-up. I think I'll just use it for my teams instead. @#;+)

UH OH, I'm getting all these rundll32.exe errors, UGH first time I've ever had em on XP. What have you done RSF!?? ;-)

RSF, your program almost was spiking out my CPU usage yesterday.

Running Excel XP on Windows XP with a 1.8 GHz Dell.

That is why I asked how long it took you to run it, because it appeared to take forever!

I would suggest that only Excel 97 users use your spreadsheets...

By the end of next month, I'll be bringout out my own version for Excel 2000 & above. I've been working on it for a week now, and hopefully I'll have more time in a week when my finals are over.

RSF, thanks for this. I am trying to use it as a division tracker. I have the 20 teams imported in the Gather Info worksheet. Can't figure out how to create the other worksheets such as the sortable and the head to head. Can you please enlighten us Excel 101 users?

Thanks, Catfish

Uhm. There are buttons at the top of the "GatherInfo" worksheet that create the thread text for each of those. Are they not working?

I dont think the head to head part works. At least, when you post, I dont think the head to head part shows up, ie:
Head To Head
v.
PITCHER
PITCHER
PITCHER
PITCHER
PITCHER
CATCHER
FIRSTBASE
SECONDBASE
THIRDBASE
SHORTSTOP
OUTFIELD
OUTFIELD
OUTFIELD

OK. Here's whats going on. If you are just copying the TeamName into the GurupieName column, there is a problem. The TeamName has an extra space infront of it, which hoses up the JavaScript routines. If you remove those extra spaces, everything works fine. I will update the routines in the spreadsheet to fix this (or just post the macro changes [should be fairly simple]).

In the "parseTeamName()" macro function, change:

stringToParse = Right(stringToParse, Len(stringToParse) - Len("Frozen Roster:"))

to:

stringToParse = Trim(Right(stringToParse, Len(stringToParse) - Len("Frozen Roster:")))

Anyone remember that spreadsheet a few years back that would go through your trade history and make a table on how much each player has made you. Anything like that still around?

RockChalker, I'm sure I could code something to do that if nothing is around...

I vaguely recall it, but there is a problem with trying to create one now. Viewing other teams "Trade History" actually would/could show you up to the minute information, and Stallworld realized this, thus if you try to view others by adding "user_id=xxxx" (which you would need to do to view all of your teams even) you get a screen that says "Sorry, but you do not have the permission to access the page you requested." A good move on Stallworld's behalf.

Actually, I wonder if only used your teamIDs, if it would work (like you are saying). That would make sense. I'll check.

RSF or AP10- how did you guys become so adept with excel? I wanna learn how to do some coding for some projects I am working on but have no idea where to start. Any particular sites or areas where I could learn some stuff? (I use excel 2000)

adept? me? Hardly. I learn by recording macros, seeing what they do, and then hitting the hell out of my F1 key.

RockChalker, RSF is a lot more adept & experience then myself, even though he wont admit to it! ;) I'm fairly new at Excel VBA code. I've read a beginners Excel VBA book & I mess around with the macro's similar to RSF....

Well, I just tried to see the TradeHistory pages for "my" account. It gives the access denied page. Bummer. Seems like that info should be available to the owner, themselves. Just not to other people.
