Why do we suck so much? |

One word...PITCHING. The offense isn't to bad, but the pitching sucks. 5.14 ERA (dead last in the NL), 233 hits allowed (4th most in the NL behind Astros, Rockies and Expos). Opponents OBP is .355, 5th worst in the Majors. But they do rank first (or last, however you want to look at it)in the NL for ER allowed with 130. Oh yeah, they also have more wild pitches than any other team in baseball (17). Your "ace" Person doesn't have a win and if it weren't for Padilla it would be a lot worse.
Offensively the Phillies are average. BA is .255 which is better than the Mets and rank 9th in the ML in hits. They've scored more runs than the Dodgers or the Mets but their pitching can't hold a lead as witnessed by Mondays Giants game when they had a 5 run lead and blew it.
Phillie plays ARI 7x, HOU 6x, NYN 5x and MON 3x in May so it's not looking like it's going to get any better any time soon.
And, if you don't get anyone for Rolen, it's just going to get worse.

9th in the Majors in hits isn't anything to be too proud of.
Sure, it's pitching, but Person hasn't been terrible, Duckworth has been great at times, and Padilla has been solid as well. I think it's the bullpen. They could hide Cormier better last year, but he's been awful this year.
I'm glad the schedule is tough, because then hopefully they'll get something good for Rolen. And I'm glad he's off to a good start as well so we don't get hosed like the Royals did with Jermaine Dye.

A lot of talk around Philly is about the bullpen- but c'mon, the starting pitching has been awful, and is the real source of the problem. After Padilla, here's how our other starters have fared:
Terry Adams- 5.01 (4 starts) Robert Person- 5.45 (6 starts) Brandon Duckworth- 5.61 (5 starts) Randy Wolf- 6.45 (4 starts) Dave Coggin- 6.48 (2 starts)
I mean damn. Really. Damn. That's awful.

According the Philadelphia Daily News and Larry Bowa, Robert Person has a sore elbow that he hasn't told the team about and will likely miss 1-2 starts paving the way for the man himself, Brett Myers! He's just come off b2b complete games as well. His first start could come as early as the next homestand vs. Colorado.
Next to go are Glanville and a Lee, good riddens......

Wow! I didn't think we'd see Myers this early. I'm a little nervous to give him a big role so soon.
Will Glanville take a paycut and a demotion to 4th OFer? I wouldn't mind that.
And Lee... man, he's GOT to do something sooner or later...
