I've noticed that there are a lot of threads not pertaining to the TSN game on these boards. Most of them are roto based threads, and are tough to reckognize by the thread title. I don't think this is a bad thing. In fact, I welcome these threads, but it makes it harder to find information pertaining to the TSN game when you really need it.

What I was thinking of is some way to be able to filter the threads by the topic. To do this, I'd assume you'd have to get everybody creating a thread to check a box before clicking post now.

  • TSN Discussion (Gee, look at Durazo's price)
  • Roto Discussion (Should I trade Rheal Cormier for Todd Helton in my 5x5 league?)
  • General Baseball Discussion (How aboot 'dem Angels!)
  • Other Options?

You'd probably have to enable the moderators to reclassify threads too. I don't know how much work this would be and how feasable it is with your software, but I think something like this is neccessary to help handle the overflow of threads we currently have.

Just a thought. Further ideas anyone?

Whenever that idea has been raised in the past, Guru has said he prefers the "open" forum, IIRC. The alternative was the creation of other Forums (like General Fantasy Sports, Simulated Sports, Auto Racing).

Without question the Board tends to get jumbled. I guess I don't notice it as much anymore because I can get a flavor for whether I want to read the thread based on its title and/or originator in most cases. Even if I enter one I don't want to read, I'm on fast connections, so backing out takes no time. I specifically put Yahoo in my thread today to identify it, for the reasons you noted Matt S. In the pre-season, the Baseball Standings Forum was being used for Sandbox and other drafts, FWIW.

I dont really think its necessary. There's not that many of those threads. And if they are, most likely they're by josh222 so we know to ignore em :)

There's still a thread from wednesday on the first page, so it hasn't been too bad, IMO.

BTW - Matt, congrats on the 100 pt pitchers! Funny how it happens the day you get cut from GMD! I'll keep my eye on ya now.

Gonna throw in a totally unrelated thought in...

Is there a way to add a tag to the Sarts that would allow us to filter/sort relief pitchers? I'm thinking mostly about closers here. Maybe if a pitcher has been given credit for a save during the year (or some other criteria) they would be included in the filter. Often I wish I could get a list of closers without having to search through the entire list of starters and middle relievers. Running it up the flag pole...

Matt S,
I'm pretty much in line with what Mike D said in his post. Maybe we could establish certain thread title tags to help identify them. The mods could just add a standard tag to the thread titles (when they come across them) if they are left off by the poster. I think that there are very few categories of threads that really need to be identified however. Certainly, the less the better. One of the main problems with this idea has always been that threads rarely follow one train of thought or stay in one "category" of discussion.

Any chance there would be enough interest in a wrestling forum?

Mr. 007, wrestling talk has usually been put in the General Fantasy Sports Forum. There were some good threads once upon a time.

This idea has occasionally surfaced in the past, and has been rejected because it's unlikely that it would be consistently used, and also because threads do often drift.

I would like to see better thread titles, however. Currently, there is no easy way to modify a thread title, but I'm thinking of adding this feature - at least so that moderators could do so. We could then perhaps establish some thread naming conventions that would serve to provide better guidance.

I'll put this on my "to do" list.

As to finding relievers in the sartibles, there is no easy way to do this. I don't track statistical categories separately, so I don't have a convenient data source to filter closers. And frankly, I'm having trouble seeing why this would be particularly useful.

For wrestling, just use the general forum.

Is there some way to filter out the threads and/or posts that I won't like or that will not be useful to me so that I never have to see them?

Just put a strip of duct tape across your screen in the appropriate place(s).

Or be like a blonde girl and use white out on the screen.

Guru,
Guess I was thinking it would be an easy way to identify closers, their price changes, and their past performance without having to fish around through all the pitchers. As I am increasingly less able to follow the game on a daily basis, I've found that I use the sortables more and more to identify players I wouldn't have otherwise considered. I think of closers as a subset of pitchers - the only position I look at that way. I use a different strategy when picking closers than I do my starters. I figure the sortables are there to help play the game - might as well take advantage of it. If it's not doable, so be it. Just floating the idea.

Sounds like you need a game of Yahoo, AA, where positional analysis like starters/relief pitchers is needed and available.

aa- one way to do this is to sort by TSNP/GP instead of by EG. I have done this in past years when I had a strict no c-loser policy.

The filter I would like to see is one that would allow my to remove pitchers that have 1 or 2 days since their last game. Usually when I am buying a pitcher I do not want to buy one that started in the last 2 days. Since they often have an extra start there are usually several of them at the top of the points list.
