0 Subject: Your chance to vote against Bud Selig

This was in Rob Neyer's column yesterday. I thought it was pretty funny and I decided to copy him. I doubt they'd ever get enough votes, but just the thought makes me laugh. Anyways, if your bored and can't stand Uncle Bud.

But I'll admit, right now, that I'm in the middle of voting for as many Twins and Expos on as many All-Star Game ballots as Major League Baseball will allow (when I finish with one ballot, there's a button that urges me to vote again, so I do). I'll admit it because I don't think it's wrong.

I do believe, of course, that we're best served if the All-Star lineups contain the best players in the game. Usually. But extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures. Voting for Fernando Tatis and Peter Bergeron is the baseball fan's version of civil disobedience. I still don't think the math works, though. Jose Vidro is a great player, but he's already 94,000 votes behind Roberto Alomar at second base in the National League. Michael Barrett is in third place at catcher, which is heartening, but he's also 160,000 votes behind Mike Piazza. but this is actually one of those rare occasions when you can make your vote count, at least as a symbol of your disgust with Major League Baseball's "leadership."

I did this based on an article in Baseball Weekly. I just couldn't bring myself to vote for Peter Bergeron, so I made Lance Berkman an honorary Expo.

"Peter Bergeron's not going to start the All-Star Game instead of Barry Bonds. But [...], it sure is fun to think about."

I'm going to do it.

I won't vote for people that have no chance like AAA Pete wuo can't even hit in the minors! But Vidro should get the nod IMO.

Don't think of it as voting for AAA Pete, think about it as voting against Bud Selig.

Did it.

I imagine it would be a bigger blow to Selig if instead for voting for all Twins and Expos, if instead we vote for only each teams union rep.

I hear that contraction may be scrubbed anyway if the Twins can get their Stadium deal approved and a DC plan to have the Expos move there goes forward.

BTW, I just noticed that even though the NL East plays the AL Central in interleague this season, the Twins and Expos do not meet. MLB has tweaked the division vs division match up so teams considered regional rivals can still get a home-and-home. Instead the Expos get an extra series with the Jays, and the Twins an extra series with Milwaukee.

I voted for Green instead of Bergeron. Couldn't bring myself to vote for a guy in the minors, sorry. Minn has Rivas on DL, but he could still garner enough votes I guess to hit top 10 perhaps.

I don't know how to do it; however, who is up to writing a script that votes constantly, and who is all up to running it whenever they can, for as long as they can?
Peter Bergeron will start at centerfield if we get a volunteer.

Rolodecks, you can vote here and when you do, you'll see that they have implemented a "Validation Key" that prevents what you suggested.

Not very hard to write a script to take into account even the validation key...I have programs I use for automated GUI testing that can easily read the key and insert it in the other field but I think you are limited to 25 votes per email address anyway.

I recall that last year they caught one or two folks who successfully (at least for a while) hacked the system and voted a large number of times. I believe it was determined to be David Bell's mom.

Hurray for David Bell's mom. Everyone should have a mom like that!

I'll snub Bud. You bet. I'll ask all my friends and family to do the same.

Here's the funny thing about this, there are a number of Min and Mon players who actually deserve to be in the Allstar game:
Vlad, and Vidro from Montreal
Jacques Jones and Torii Hunter from Min. Torii's trailed off a bit, but I wouldn't call it an injustice if he did make it.

I filled a MIN/MON shotgun ballot at the Safe last week and just did it a few times online. I know it is working, just look at F. Tatis in 5th in NL at third base. Ridiculous.

However, can someone explain 200,000 votes for Ben Grieve, putting him 6th in the AL outfield? He isn't half the player Jacque Jones is, and even with all of the protest votes, Jones is mired in 11th.
