0 Subject: OT: Downloading MP3's

Does anybody know of a good website to download mp3's? My employer has closed off access to P2P programs, so I need some other way of downloading music (hey, a T1 line is much better than my weak AOL dial-up). Thanks alot!

Use mIRC. Go to www.mirc.com and download the program. Then connect to a DalNet server and type "/list mp3". Hundreds of mp3 channels will be listed. Double click on one and follow the instructions.

Its complicated at first but once you get the hang of it, there is nothing better!

(sorry I cant elaborate, i'm in a time crunch)

How about actually working then buying the music on CD's?

Lazio he said P2P (peer to peer) programs do not work, and that is what winMX is. He is looking for a website in which you can download mp3s, not a program.

But I must agree with bmd, buying the CDs always works!

I know this has come up in the past, but the nature of p2p software is that the best ones to use often changes. To those that use these programs, what are you guys using these days? KaZaA remains my primary source downloading files, and Audiogalaxy was my long time consistant backup for files that more rare or otherwise were harder to find. But Audiogalaxy no longer does file sharing, so I'm looking for another to try - one that does not share the same database (for lack of better term) of file sharers as KaZaA. Suggestions?

Thanks AP10, I'll give it a try. I'm not at home to be able to check now but I believe I already have MIRC downloaded for accessing the Gurupie chat room, assuming it's the same program. I haven't used it in months but I assume I can access the "/list mp3" from the same list that I access "gurupie chat" from?

MITH, I'll agree with Lazio in that WinMX is probably the best P2P program out there right now. I stopped using Kazaa months ago when it incorporated all the spyware and ads, its just not worth it. If you're looking for a P2P program, try WinMX.

I was under the impression that WinMX uses the same database of file sharers that KaZaA uses and Morpheus used to use, no?

It may use the same database and servers, but I believe the software is far superior than Kazaa.

Really? I'm pretty happy with KaZaA, except for the spyware and ads of course. Is WinMX a Napster clone?

I've found blubster to be the best now that audiogalaxy is gone. Almost carbon copy of napster. Lots of hard-to-find stuff on there.

WinMX is as good as Kazaa minus the ads and spyware...What more can you ask for?

Kazaa lite is my new P2P. It's bootleg kazaa without the spyware.

winmx is the exact copy of napster, but you can even download videos, films, pictures choosing between all the formats existing.

Yeah, my guess is it's the same thing as having KaZaA without the extras. Right now KaZaA reports having 2,084,696 users online, sharing 343,890,638 files. If WinMX reports about that, they share the same servers.

Ditto #21, Kazaa Lite is the way to go. Same thing as Kazaa but without the spyware. If anyone wants it hit me up on AIM, its only 1.2 MB in size.

LOL, I wasn't being serious. Anytime someone mentions comi stuff, the first thing that comes to mind is an episode of Seinfield when Elaine is dating a communist. I can take a joke.

Nah, but my wife almost left me for your boyfriend, Makisupa :P

A P2P network is only as good as the number of users it has. That said, I believe Morpheus and Kazaa are the most popular. Morpheus boasts that they are a true P2P, meaning they can't be shutdown, unlike Napster. There was a security issue with Kazaa a while back so watch out.

Just log onto www.canada.com and download a bot that can get songs for you as you need them. The Daniele 1.0 is very effective in my experience.
