Since blue hen's challenge of an optimal roster intrigued me, I decided to run a simple optimal roster algorithm, namely myself looking at the sartibles for the past 15 days and constructing a roster from the top scorers. If I remember, and there's interest, I'll try to run these every 15 days, and see if a totally optimized roster can keep up with the people who are buying trades. As of now, the team would stand somewhere between WWR 101 and 115, with 6 available trades, 2 starters going tonight (Mulder and Millwood), and the 3rd going tomorrow (Halladay). I'm sure this roster could be improved by the use of trades, but I'm figuring that by banking them early, we can selectively pick matchups later in the year, plus it gives us greater flexibility in modifying our roster each 2 weeks. So, without further ado, here's my simple table of the optimal roster.
Original Prices: Mulder - 6,070,000 Halladay - 3,060,000 Millwood - 2,470,000 Varitek - 2,930,000 Ortiz - 2,500,000 Tejada - 4,730,000 Ibanez - 1,700,000 Beltran - 5,490,000
Player RV - 28,950,000 Cash Left - 1,050,000 Total RV - 30,000,000

Current RV - 31,290,000 Current Total RV - 32,340,000
