I'm a little bored so I'll make an all time all star team. If you disagree, feel free to add your suggestions
1B-Gehrig 2B-Rose-I guess I'll put him here 3B-Schmidt SS-Honus Wagner (soon to be A-Rod) C-Bench LF-Mays CF-Cobb RF-Ruth SP-Nolan Ryan SP-Tom Seaver SP-Walter Johnson SP-Koufax SP-CY Young RP-Lee Smith RP-Eckersly RP-Goose Bench-Musial, Hank Aaron, Bonds. |

Just because someone played many years ago, does not automatically make them better, you have just grown up thinking of them as baseball heros, but the realism is that RJ should be there, Bonds should not be a reserve, and ARod should be there now, not just in the future.

Batting Order: Ty Cobb, Pete Rose, Honus Wagner (Sorry, ARod), The Babe, Gehrig, Teddy Ballgame, Yo-Gi, Nap Lajoie, and Shoeless Joe.
On the Mound: Cy Young, Christy Mathewson, Lefty (Grove and/or Carlton), Hoyt Wilhelm, and Rich Gossage
(As for flakiest team of all time: Jay Johnstone, Roger McDowell, Steve Howe, Pascual Perez, Doug Rader, John Kruk, Richie Allen, Mickey, Yogi, Charley Kerfeld, Mark Fidrych, Steve Yeager, Larry Andersen, Jim Bouton, Joe Pepitone, Hawk Harrelson, and of course, Bob Uecker!)

Yeah, Roger Clemens and Greg Maddux probably should be up there too.

2 glaring error: Rogers Hornsby at 2nd base, not Pete Rose. Ted Williams nowhere to be seen (as already said).

Sorry, forgot about Ted, I did this fast. And cancermoon, Bonds should NOT be a starter. You cannot say that he was better than Mays, Ruth, and Cobb. If you think he should play over Cobb, Cobb was a CF BArry is only a LF. Also, Cobb has the highest BA. He is also top 4-7 in steals and other cate

I would definitely take Bonds over any outfielder not named Ruth and I think I could be persuaded to take him over Ruth.
2B...give me Joe Morgan over anyone.
SP...remove Nolan Ryan.
RP...remove Lee Smith
SS...I could deal with Arod right now...he has done enough to take that place.

You can't say that A-Rod has doen enough to be the best SS of all time. Remember when everyone said that Griffey was one of the best OF all time. What is he now? He's not even a top 15 OF now. You can't be so quick to decisions based on only a few years of MLB experience.
By removing Pete Rose, you're removing the all-time hits leader with many more than whos in second (Cobb)
By removing Lee Smith, your removing the all time saves leader
By removing Nolan Ryan, you're removing the all time K leader. He also has thrown the most no-hitters of all time

Just because someone is an alltime leader in a catagory does not mean he was the best...means he had longevity. When I think of alltime teams I want the player that was the best in his prime years not the one that lasted the longest.
If you want leaders you better put Rickey Henderson somewhere on your team...can't see how you could leave off the all-time walk/runs/stolen base leader.

How could anyone suggest Nolan Ryan is among the best all time when there was not a single season when he was considered the best pitcher in his league (he never won a Cy Young award)?

The question for all-time team, is how long do you want this team together?
If career, you bring in guys with longevity, but not neccesarily the best.
If just one year, you disqualify many of the greats.
You need to define what "all-time" you are going for. This is open for discussion no matter what, but if there are no parameters, it's totally wide open. Pick a period of time: 5 years/10 years/whatever so we know what we're evaluating on. Or pick a standard such as career average, or 10 year average.

What do you mean ARod has not done enough, is this all time team suppose to last 5 years, or a team that would play one season, if it is one season then AROd just needs to be good enough as of now, and I am sure no other shortstop has ever been as good at this point in ARod's career.
It is hard to compare players from different times, as really, all players now should be better than any players in the 1940's, if they weren't then it would be very very sad, and all the new technological advances, equipment, training techniques that have been totally useless. Kind of like the worlds best sprinter running 10.20 in 1950 was a better sprinter than the guy running 9.80 now. The only reason the stats are relatively comparable still is because the pitchers now are far better, I'd love to see Bonds figures if he faced a year of 1940 pitching.

I'd love to see Barry's stats without taking steroids, lifting weights, or taking other pills to make hime and others stronger

Pete Rose is not the best 2nd baseman of all time. He's the all time hits leader, sure. But thats it. He's far from the best 2nd baseman ever. I'd definitely go with Rogers Hornsby first, fielding and batting. Joe Morgan is second pick for me. Sandberg and Alomar would be 3 and 4.

Da Bomb that is unproven slander, but even if he took all the pills in the world, did it include eye pills or coordination pills? otherwise how do you explain his AVG?

Only one catcher? Josh Gibson should be added to the team.
Without a DH let Ruth pitch some games as he did in his young Elvis days.
Which all-time stadium would be home to this team?
Old Yankee Stadium? Ebbets Field? The Polo Grounds?

Of course! The Spaceman is the team mascot. The Ultimate Flake. I got his autograph at an old-timers event. He still pitches up in Massachusetts in an over-40 league.
Commissioner: Do you smoke marijuana? Bill Lee: No, I just use it sprinkled on my pancakes before I ride my bicycle to the ballpark.
As for all-time pitcher greats: Modern Era - Nolan Ryan, Big Unit and James Rodney Richard (talk about fear in the batter's box!)

Da Bomb, I'd love to see your stats after taking steroids, lifting weights, or taking other pills to make you stronger.
Really, since when is lifting weights a bad thing that's associated with drugs?

TLW, I wasn't lisitng taking steroids, lifting weights, or taking other pills to make you stronger as bad things. By these, I meant that these things make you hit better
