Google Toolbar

I've always enjoyed the Google Toolbar because it puts the search engine right inside my browser and it doesn't take over my computer like the Yahoo Toolbar and others seem to do.

They just came out with the Google Toolbar 2.0 (beta) and it has a VERY nice addition to it. They've added pop-up controls to the toolbar so you can prevent pop-ups from web sites. This stops ALL javascript pop-ups, including ones you actually click on. The cool thing, though, is that it changes your mouse for a quick second to let you know it's blocked a pop-up and it gives you the control to allow that pop-up if you wish. And as if that wasn't enough, you can actually click the little "Allow pop-ups" button for a web site and it always allows pop-ups for that web site.

Also, you know when you type in a web address and nothing is found and it searches using whatever web site? Well, there's an option in the settings that allows you to change it so that the search is performed on Google. VERY nice!

I've only been using it for about a week, but the pop-up control has made my browsing so much nicer over that week that I couldn't resist passing on the info.

Thanks KKB, this was new to me. I am somewhat bored today so started playing with it. Got into the blog feature -- something I had heard about -- now I have set one up.

Thanks, KKB -- as always, useful stuff and in this case kinda neat.

BUTT.. The toolbar is really awesome. Are they still offering it for download? I haven't seen it on the Google site. My count of blocked websites stands at 760. Can anyone beat that?

I've got 1033 blocked, but a co-worker has over 1500.

It's still available for download here. You find it by going Homepage > Services & Tools (scroll to the bottom) > Google Toolbar

Great One, "blog" is short for "web log," or online diary. Most of them are focused on particular subjects, but others are just daily stuff. Check out Dave Barry's Blog for a better idea.
