Guru, his site and his patrons. Thought I would share this story to show the importance of this site, at least to me.

I deployed to Iraq last year and one of the things I missed was Smallworld, now TSN Ultimate Fantasy Baseball. I spent many days away from the office performing combat related missions but I was one of the fortunate who could come back to an office and a computer when not performing said missions.

I talked to a buddy back home and was not going to play TSN since I couldn't get to the TSN site (security stuff) and therfor could not make trades, stay updated on prices etc... Well he offered to make my trades based on my daily e-mail requests, even paid for my team, so I said what the hell it would give me something to do. Little did I know how important it would become to me.

Here's where the site comes in. I had access to very few web sites but for whatever reason I could get to all of these message boards (no daily blurbs), sartibles and a select few Guru "other baseball pages". I played the entire year this way until the last month when my access to this site was cut off.

I had worked my way into the top 100 and ended up finishing somewhere in the top 200 - 300 range with a drastic decline the last month, once access to this site was ended. I finished second in my division to a guru named "tdotters" aka "Twarpy. I bring this up because I figured out who he was and thanks to Dave R and the daily standings I was able to follow his team. Remember I never had access to the TSN site. I looked forward to waking up every morning to get on here and believe me looking forward to getting up was not a regular thing. I have been using this site for 6-7 years but it meant something much more checking in when it was a touch of home rather than just checking in from the comforts of home.

My experience and importance of this site is too much too explain and surely understand. I just wanted everyone to know that so many threads and people, to include daily price updates, last nights action, Penny Gray's charts and many many more played a huge role in my life. That's not to mention the obvious tools provided by the Guru.

I don't think I can begin to explain the importance of the site and the threads during that period of my life. I write this only to thank you all and in particular Mr. Hall and let you know that something so simple is so important for others. Please no thank you's to me for my service I understand the great amount of support here at home. Just wanted to express my thanks to so many back home who probably had no idea about their contributions. By the way Guru, I tried to send my annual small payment from Iraq but of course that was blocked. Checks in the mail times 2.

Go Easy - Thanks for sharing your story.

Please no thank you's to me for my service I understand the great amount of support here at home.

Many of us 'holed up' in an office or a classroom every day cannot even begin to measure the sacrifice and dedication that the members of the armed forces of the US and other coalition countries have made, on our behalf. So I'll respect your request and not make this a 'thank you' thread. But it is good to know that in even a small way, that everyone here has contributed to make life seem a little more normal over there, and could boost morale in some small way.

Great post Go Easy.
Great reminder to all of us of the hidden benefits of this site that we don't necessarily think of.

Have a great season this year.

To think that any of us had that much effect on your daily life while you were serving is truly an honor. Thanks for the great post.

I've always believed it's the little things in life that make it so special, this certainly helps bolster that belief. Thanks for sharing.

Wow Go Easy, great story... All I can say is I remember I won all my divisions easily except for the one you were in, and with the limited access you had you probably would have smoked me if you had full access.

Anytime you want to be in another of my divisions, I'd love to be in with you on a more level field.

Like Guru said this story really made my day.

Great story, great post.

Great to hear that the daily standings served you a useful purpose. I'll make sure to continue this year.

Go Easy... As a fellow service member (11 year veteran of the USAF), all I can say is great post and that I'm proud to serve in the US military with heroes like you. Next time you fly an ol' C-130 to get to the fight... know that your brother-in-arms "TrashHauler" keeps 'em flying for the troops like you!

I have also found rotoguru to be a little bit of magic when it comes to working around the web sites that big brother has blocked out... thanks to Guru and others that have given us a way to stay connected! You guys ROCK!

God Bless the troops and God Bless America!
