0 Subject: RIBC 2006: draft discussion

Posted by: Guru
- [330592710] Tue, Mar 07, 2006, 17:40

The draft will be activated shortly, although the clock will not be turned on until Friday, March 10.

Starting on Friday morning, we will institute a 6 hour clock. The clock will pause between 11pm and 7am ET. If you time out, the draft will move on. Skipped picks can be made up at any time thererafter.

If your turn arises and you still have an outstanding skipped pick, I will probably move the draft on to the next picker. If we get well ahead of pace, I may relax that stance. But hopefully it will not become an issue. This also means that people on the turn have a single clock period to make their first pick, or both will be skipped.

Although the clock will be set at 6 hours, we cannot make satisfactory progress if many managers use much of that allowance. We need to average a little more than one round per day, so please do your best to keep up the pace. If we fall behind, managers who are chronically slow may be put on an shorter clock.

We will use this thread for logistical communications, to help others anticipate potential delays, to recruit someone to accept a queue, to announce or solicit trades, to coordinate changes in the clock for weekends, etc. Please check this thread regularly throughout the draft, as we will rely on it as the primary means of communication among RIBC managers.

Established draft etiquette is that no undrafted player names should be mentioned either here or in the rationale threads, and in the event of an infraction, should be edited out.

After two rounds have been completed, a separate draft rationale thread will be started. We will try to keep that thread on a 2 round lag. Therefore, after you make your pick in round 3, please immediately post your round 1 pick rationale, and so forth. I usually draft my rationales as I make picks, so that all I need to do when the time comes is copy and paste. I recommend that approach for everyone.

blue hen: re rationale for 12.04 Daniel Cabrera SP BAL

A fairly famous fantasy writer looked at my list for pick 11...

Hiring a draft consultant, are you?

Are you kidding? I'm asking anyone who will listen for help with my RIBC team. As it turned out, I ran into this guy, and showed him my team and who I was considering. He really gave me a hard time about Olly and told me to take Cabrera. In the end, I got both.

Hey, how does Holt have four hours if Toral picked at 3?

Was wondering the same thing myself... guessing the endpicker's been given 6 hours instead of 4+4?

Ok, it's fixed.

As an FYI, the people on the ends of the draft only have a single clock for both picks, which is currently 6 hours.

Mach 327: I had a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach when I saw you trying to trade up. "Don't anybody be in a dealing mood!" I was wishing.

Hey Toral,
I'm still interested in acquiring Lowell. I can upgrade a BUNCH of your future picks.

Somebody going to be up early to take a queue? I don't feel like emptying my list. Which reminds me - KKB - how about a queue AND a worksheet, where you can add players to the worksheet, but also have an official queue as needed?

How Runs, rbi's, sb, obp, slg% you think you need to win.
Also if you have last years #'s at each catagory that took 16pts.
Thanks from a AA league member hoping one day to make "The Show!"
Thanks

If you dont want to share your top secert #'s please email me thanks again.

Looks like I was a day early on selecting Wily Mo Pena. Just traded to the Red Sox. Probably won't get nearly as many AB in Boston, unless other moves are also in the works.

Timing is everything, just like EH picking up Ambiorix Burgos not too long after the news he will close for KC until MacDougal heals.

Maybe I should wait the whole 6 hours to pick, just in case new developments come in ;)

The news on Burgos came out about 4pm yesterday. I was surprised to see people keep passing on him, but we are talking about the KC closer...doh!

Speaking of "timing is everything," JeffG, Linebrink was on top of my queue for 16.11. I really didn't expect him to slide this far, and then I started to get my hopes up at the last minute.

Linebrink was in my sights for two rounds, but I concentrated on other needs. Then while he kept being bypassed, I start thinking "what does everyone else know that I don't". Thanks Guru for easing my paranoia.
