I remember reading somewhere that someone (i think it was from SI)averages out the average stats needed to win a 5x5 league for baseball. does anyone know where i can find something similar to this? i think i read it last year |

It depends heavily on the size of the roster and the number of managers in the league.
As a starting place, here's the final standings for a 13 team shallow league (17 bench spots total):

bili...how many pitcher innings is it in that league? The Ks and Ws seem very low compared to the 13 team league I have ran the past 3 years. We do 1300 inning cap and the top K team is generally ~1150 and wins can be in the high 80s low 90s.
The HR/RBI/Runs also seem a little low...but maybe just a few percent off. I will post the results of my leagues when I get home this evening.

1000 - It's a shallow league. We only have 6 total P spots and two bench spots, so I cut it back.

Ok that makes sense...we run 13 teams but have a deep bench...6 spots...and 8 active pitcher slots...so most people use up their innings...does hurt the WHIP/ERA #s some...
26 man rosters...161 games per position...with daily moves you can come pretty close to maxing most of the postion games too.

Yeah, it's quite a challenge to get zeros in your position players with just a couple of bench spots.
The purpose of the shallow league, btw, is that there are a number of casual players in the league, and my thought was that I wanted them to perhaps be competitive (checking in maybe once a week) against someone who would be likely to churn their roster for Ws and Ks. I also didn't want the WW vultures to stack their benches with an all star team.
I don't know successful I was.
Any other ideas as to set up a league were daily diligence is only minimally rewarded?

Do not allow daily roster changes...make it weekly...
Only way to limit waiver heros is to limit the number of transactions.
My brother plays in a league where moves are limited to like 3 special moves a year and it ends up really coming down to the best draft. Does allow people to drop/replace unlimited DL players.
(personally I like as much flexibility as possible because I feel that is one of my big advantages is platooning players and constantly tweaking rosters)

Yeah, I thought of that. A league I was in like that, folks just lost interest.
This is a wild, fun league. I have two pages of trades, and those are only the ones that involved draft picks. One particular draft pick got trades 5 times last year.
People constantly tweak, with the short bench. (As a consequence I was able to pick up Bay and Sizemore off the WW in May - nice for a keeper league).
I don't want to stifle that. I just don't want the unemployed guy to always win. ;)

Thanks for the help, i'm in kind of a weird league, instead of a max innings we have a min. of 30 a week. never done one like this before, we'll see how things go

OUCH! Better hope a team doesn't get sadled with some rainouts and a one start week! I don't think I like that much at all.
I don't like leagues where the draft pretty much decides your fate. My favorite leagues are the ones that you can be dealt even a mediocre hand and be able to tweak your team on the WW, make trades and use your bench and still be competitive. A short bench and a deep active roster can criple not only the WW for certain positions but the ability to find a trading partner as well.

I think I have a pretty decent team, my pitching, i feel is better than my hitting, but we'll see. here is my roster, i don't have any great guys in one category (no one over 30 HR) but a lot of my guys are multidimensional.
