Blogging is something I have been looking into just get my thoughts about sports and other things out there for fun. I saw Piccolos' blog in the NBA forum and thought I would post for some advice because I am sure there are many frequent bloggers among the Gurupies. This didn't get posts like I expected in the politic forum (although it was up for just a few hrs), so I am hoping some more speak up here.

Some questions:
What site did you create your blog from?
Is it good? Why?
Have you tried others? What were your opinions?
Is there a "popular" blogging site?
How do you get people to start reading your blog?

I feel like I had a lot of other questions, but I appreciate any information.

Thanks,
THK

Blogspot.com.

Just be interesting and people will read it.

What site did you create your blog from?
Blogger.com for sure (becomes Blogspot)

Is it good? Why?
All those users can't be wrong, can they? Seriously though, it's the quickest/easiest way to get started and it's free.

Have you tried others? What were your opinions?
Since I run my own web sites, I'm able to do my own hosting, so I use blogging software. I use WordPress because of its features/ease of use and price tag: $0. I've also used pMachine, but found it more difficult and I don't think they have a free version anymore. For photo blogs, I'd recommend the download from Pixelpost. It's not the most advanced software out there, but it's really easy to use and setup. Again, these are all software, which will require hosting. For the absolute easiest method, use Blogger.

Is there a "popular" blogging site?
For creating one, it's Blogger. For ones that are the most-read, that'd be found here. Good luck on ever making it to that page. ;)

How do you get people to start reading your blog?
Realistically, nobody will ever find you until people start linking to you. So, find blogs that are similar to yours and offer a link exchange. Most blogging software offers some sort of posting of links in a sidebar or somewhere, so this is where you'd put your exchanged links. Try to get as many reciprocal links as possible because it's really the only way you'll get found.

Other than that, like hen said, you need to be interesting. People aren't going to bookmark you or add you to their feed reader if you're not interesting in some way.

KKB-
Well I made a little blog before I posted this but wondered if I was on a good site. It happened to be blogspot.com - so good.

Could you direct me how to link to people and stuff? Some of the settings I don't really understand what they are getting at...because I am virtually computer illiterate.

Anyway...
Drew's Rants and Raves

I just wanted to start because as I pursue a career in sports I wanted to get some stuff down just casually... Also posted my article I wrote for www.phillypurge.com. Still a small site and the guy is letting me write stuff basically because it is virtually unknown right now so I can write whatever...

Thanks for your help KKB.

yep...I think the DePauw Chapter was the 3rd, 4th or 5th (somewhere in there?) chapter founded. Since then a few chapters have lost their charters for whatever reasons, etc. Anyway, therefore Xi Chapter is #2. DePauw itself is home to the first ever Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, which also happened to be the first ever sorority founded. So the Greek system pretty much orginated at DePauw and now (via Princeton Review) we are ranked #1 Frat and Sorority scene (near 80% of students).

So mbj- You are Sig as well? If so which chapter?

You have no idea Seattle.
#1) Fraternities and Sororities are for some and obviously not for others
#2) DePauw's Greek scene is unlike any other because of the participation. The normal sterotypes are not quite the case at DePauw
#3) If you haven't been in a fraternity, then you have no idea what they are about, so you probably shouldn't talk about them negatively.
#4) If you have been in a fraternity and feel that way...well you joined the wrong one. ;-)

I always thought Kappa Alpha Theta was a women's fraternity, not a sorority.

blue hen, did you know they added sorority houses on Frat Row? I don't know how having the houses all on one street fits in to Emory's "we need to curb student drinking" plan. They friggin' moved the only damn event Emory students ever cared about. Dooley's Ball is now a spring event. What a joke.

Actually, Bid Day was the only event Emory students cared about. Man, that was a party. But Dooley's Ball in the spring is a joke. Don't they realize how much freshman girls can wise up between October and March?

Do you mean actual sorority houses or sorority themed houses? For example, Sigma Chi housed about 20 women, all from different sororities, one year when they were kicked off campus. They made great neighbors.

No, they built actual houses on the other side of the street. And I heard Bid Day was sweet. It left before I got there, but Dooley's Ball more than made up for it. At a school where no one did anything together, Dooley's Ball was the event that brought everyone together.

I haven't been impressed with blogspot. Blogs are often down or almost impossible to access in a timely fashion and they are often easily hijacked.

I've seen a few housing-bubble blogs get hijacked by pro-Real Estate forces, and they remain that way even months later.

Not just Blogspot. A lot of places will limit the lengths of posts. I ALWAYS do a CTRL+A and CTRL+C before submitting anything that took a long time to write on any web site. You have to factor in server/connection issues as well. It's a "danger" of our lovely internet.

I'm not defending Blogspot, but that would seem to be a very targeted attack. I know three of my friends that have Blogspot blogs and none of them have experienced anything remotely similar to this.
