Subject: RIBC Qualifiying Leagues: 2007

I have sent out 16 invitations for the 2007 RotoGuru Invitational Baseball Challenge. Thus far, I have 15 acceptances. I have yet to hear from the defending champion, Holt. On the assumption that he will return to defend, I think it’s time to begin the organization process for the Qualifying Leagues.
As background, the RIBC invitations went to the top 6 in last year’s RIBC (excluding me), plus the top three teams in each of the two AAA leagues, plus the winner of each of three AAA leagues. One of the qualifying RIBC managers, IAC, has opted not to participate this year, so I invited the next best finisher from the RIBC to fill that slot. Here are the 16 managers in the 2007 RIBC:
Holt (pending acceptance) Trip Dave R Athletics Guy Guru Blue Hen KrazyKoalaBears Building 7 Peter N. StLCards filthy tosh philsphan Flying Polack Bags JTSERB
If Holt should decline, then I will decide on one additional manager TBD.
We will again form two AAA leagues. The following teams will have first priority in filling those 32 spots:
1. Teams finishing 9-15 in last year’s RIBC. The last place manager failed to participate for most of the 2006 season, and will not be eligible for a AAA slot this year. 2. Teams finishing 4-8 in each of the two AAA leagues 3. Teams finishing 2-6 in each of the three AA leagues last season.
This list comprises 32 teams, as follows:
RIBC 9-15 (7 teams) JeffG Jumpball Chris CanEHdian Pride Hubble Toral MC&TB
AAA 4-8 (10 teams) JL Uptown Bombers MattinglyintheHall Andrew the Athletic slackjawed yokels ksoze loki darkside Cobwebs Species
AA 2-6 (15 teams) Electroman In It To Win It(?) C1-NRB TD Bash Brothers allhair allstars Smith32 RoboGuru Turdbosses MBT allhair goes yard mjd's Dman special Pancho Villa Aggy Norwich Navigators
In some cases, I’ve simply listed the team name, as I don’t know the manager’s name. It looks like allhair may have actually managed two of those teams, and if so, there is still one slot available.
To the extent that we have additional openings for AAA slots, I suggest that we offer them to teams finishing 9th or 10th in a AAA league and to teams finishing 7-8 in a AA league. The 10 managers satisfying those criteria may be accepted to fill known open spots, first come, first served. In other words, start a waiting list!
We will also have as many AA leagues as necessary to fulfill the interest. Managers not on the AAA priority list may begin forming those leagues now.
We do need a manager to commish each of the Qualifying Leagues. In the past, we have generally had ample volunteers for this important role. In general, it will be the first duty of each commish to coordinate the organization of the league.
I anticipate that the RIBC will begin to draft sometime in the March 7-10 time frame. The regular season opens on Sunday, April 1, and these drafts have a tendency to require about 2.5 weeks.
Anyone want to commish a QL? |

Having never been in a RIBC league, I'd like to try my hand this year if a slot becomes available in the minor leagues.

I'll Commish the Pacific Coast League this year since we lost filthy to the majors. Hell I pretty much Commished it last year....not only was he filthy but he was pretty lax in his Commish duties ;-)

Guru, I did have two teams qualify at the AA level -- I managed a team in the Sally league and then ended up commishing the Coast to Coast league, which allowed me to have two teams on a technicality. One of those slots is obviously now forfeit.
I'm in for a AAA slot.

Glad this came out today! Starting Friday AM 02/16 I'll be away until Sunday 02/25, with no Internet access.
With the IAC dropout, looks like I ended up one out of the money to stay in RIBC. Count me in for AAA. Save me a slot. One of the commishioners please email me the signup info and I'll sign up when I return.
If no one else wants to step forward as AAA commish, I'll be glad to step in when I return.

As a 7th place finisher in the Coast to coast league I would like to put my name on the list for a AAA alternate spot.
If there is not an opening I am up for another stint in AA.

Since I finished 8th in the Sally league last year, I would also like to add my name to the AAA waiting list. If there is not an opening, I am up for an AA spot.

Not sure if MUDGE (turdbosses from Sally league) will post, but he informed me that he wants to be in the same league with me, as we work and talk trash together. If the waiting list opens up for me and AAA (seems unlikely as my 9th place finish last year) then he will take a spot in AAA. If I don't make the cut, again (bitter bitter), then he will play in the Sally league, and forfeit his spot in AAA.

That leaves 3 AAA spots open (MC&TB, allhair and Turdbosses (nice name!)). Guru said replacements are on a first come, first served basis. Thus, it would seem that the following have formed the waiting line (in order):
Weykool Da Bomb wolfer
Thus, I would assume all 3 are now qualified for AAA participation. Others fitting the criteria (9th or 10th in AAA last year, or 7th/8th in AA) should post their desire for the next AAA spot.

I may a bit slow on the response for the next couple of weeks due to RX concerns, but will be better

I regret to inform that I am retiring from fantasy baseball.
I'd like to thank you all for many years (wow, nearly 10!) of some fun competition and good banter on the boards. Special thanks to the Guru for all of his hard work in maintaining the site.
Cheers Dave! Good luck and best wishes to all...

Guys if there is a spot open I'd be interested, please email me at the above address... I don't currently have a GURU inspired FBB team... I will post this in all the RIBC leagues... thanks!
