The following managers will comprise the 2007 RIBC:
Holt (pending acceptance) Trip Dave R Athletics Guy Guru Blue Hen KrazyKoalaBears Building 7 Peter N. StLCards filthy tosh philsphan Flying Polack Bags JTSERB
I've received confirmation from everyone except Holt, last year's champ. I'm assuming he will return as well, and hope to hear from him ASAP.
Meanwhile, we can use this thread to begin to organize. The first order of business is discuss any potential rule changes for the 2007 season. I'll see if I can find a convenient summary of last year's rules to copy and paste.

I am officially setting my goal at either winning, or at the very least, finishing 14th, ahead of Mach and Peter N.

Building,
I remember you, certainly.
Dude, let me tell you: we somehow made it into RIBC last year. It's killer competition. Draft well. And as always, look out for blue hen.
Personally, I thought The Treasonists was one of the best handles I've ever seen online. If I remember correctly what your job is, however, I can see why you changed it.
As exciting as Building 7 is, well, The Treasonists won't be one I soon forget.

Email was sent to all managers with details on registering at Yahoo and kafenatid.
Here's my tentative thinking on time frame: We will start the draft on or about March 8. We may go untimed for a day or two, or may simply activate the draft a day early, with March 8 as the date that the clock is turned on. The clock will probably be set at 6 hours, including weekends, with a nightly moratorium of 6-8 hours. I figure out the details later.
We'll hold the draft2 starting sometime around March 1. As you may recall, this is the one round process during which we select our draft pick sequence. We could start that now, but I want to wait until later because I know that many (including me) have not yet begin preparing in earnest, and it's always helpful to have started the prep work before making that decision.

OK - I've procrastinated long enough. It's time to begin the draft selection process.
I need two RIBC managers to email me a set of the integers 1-16 arranged in any order. I will use the first set received to resequence an alphabetical list of the 16 managers, and the second to assign the order of selection.
Using this selection order, we will then each sequentially select our position in for the RIBC draft. That draft will snake, so the person drafting #1 in the first round will draft last in the second round. In addition, waiver priorites immediately after the draft will be in "even round" order.
Once I receive two sets of numbers, I'll post the results and we can begin.

Trip sent the following series: 3 7 2 16 4 8 10 1 12 5 9 6 15 11 13 14 Flying Polack then sent this set: 13 8 7 1 16 5 4 10 14 3 6 9 12 11 2 15 Using those two sets as described above, here is the order for the selection round: 1 Dave R 2 philsphan 3 Flying Polack 4 Bags 5 Peter N. 6 StLCards 7 Athletics Guy 8 Blue Hen 9 Holt 10 filthy 11 Trip 12 tosh 13 Guru 14 KrazyKoalaBears 15 Building 7 16 JTSERB So, Dave R gets to choose his selection order first. We can begin this round immediately. There is no clock for this round, but try to make your best efforts to pick when it is your turn.I'm still aiming to start the draft next week, probably on Thursday.

Pardon the interruption, but what's wrong with the #4 pick?! Has the #4 drafter come in last every year? Is it unlucky? Cursed? If #13 goes before #4 I'll be even more concerned. I belonged to a discussion group when the internet was young where the running gag was, when doing a list of anything, there was no #4. It's piqued my curiosity because I chose the #4 pick in AAA PCL. I'm beginning to question my draft before I've even picked my first player.

I just reviewed last year's draft thread, and see that we started the draft clock on Friday and finished 16 days later on a Monday, almost a week before the season started. So, assuming we can move at a similarly brisk pace, I think I'll activate the clock on Friday morning once again.
I'll probably activate the draft on Thursday, so that those who are ready can jump the gun.
I assume that everyone will be ready and available to start no later than Friday morning? Will anyone not be available a day or two early? I don't want to activate early if we're going to stall quickly.

C1, I know I messed up some draft spot selections last year when I took a certain pitcher earlier than expected. Some people choose their spot with a particular player in mind and hope to get them as late as possible so they can get as early as possible a pick in the second round. Thus, if you feel you can get a player at the #7 slot (for example), why would you take the #4 slot and select said player and then select later in the 2nd round?
My guess is that a number of people don't feel there's much value in the #4 spot compared to their selected spot and the subsequent 2nd round spot.
It's not always about having the highest draft spot possible...

All right, we've waited long enough. I sent him a second email this morning, but still no response. I hope this isn't a harbinger of things to come.
I'm going to assign filthy to the #16 slot. This isn't because I think 16 is either the best or the worst of those available. Frankly, I think they are all pretty comparable. I'm putting him in the 16 slot so that if he is similarly AWOL at any time during the draft, he won't have as many opportunities to bog things down (i.e., only once per 2 rounds, rather than once per round.) It's essentially a "best interests of the league" selection.
