Looks to me like a LOT of contenders lost ground to the leaders recently. At one point there were something like 20-25 people within 500 points of the lead, and only 5-10 between 500-1000 points back. Now there are far fewer within 500 points and far more between 500-1000.

Looks like sells are dropping Peavy's price only about .25, while buys are pushing it up $1. I'm guessing he hit $90 and basically stays there through freeze time, and then drops like a rock.

blackjackis21 - Agreed...prices on the 'must have' hot pitchers seem to be starting their bounce-back a day or so sooner than on other starting pitchers.

Up until yesterday, I had a very good week or so. I'm due to fall back to earth a little so don't be surprised if the gap narrows again (at least on my side, can't speak for Species). Since May 23, my hitting was very solid and I averaged 8.83 pt/ip for SP, unsustainably high in my opinion.

I sent RH an email today asking about possibilities for making myself eligible for the prize $$. Of course, it seems I could always have just gone and changed my address and moved on my own without sending an inquiry, but that's not really my style. Plus, have to be honest when that kind of cash is potentially involved. My email to them was kind of pitiful, since I played the Katrina card (my house flooded, so I asked them to at least examine the options without taking the easy road by just saying "no"). Nothing like denigrating your dignity for the all-mighty buck.

I've been nursing my RV a little more lately, so I'm up to $828. Not sure if I'll be around for Peavy's freeze, but since I bought him at $59 it won't be the end of the world if I miss it.

Tough weekend for pitchers. No idea who I will go with. I'm still leary of Penny after the shelacking I got the time I started him. Maybe go with both Santanas on Sunday? I could just forgo SP all weekend since I'm about on pace for innings right now.

I'm already trying to work it out where I'll have enough cash banked to buy Peavy back before the 11pm marketing re-opening.

Not gonna use Paps tonight. May actually go with Oswalt & Peavy and if I get off to a good start, maybe I'll shoot for a June prize?

Peavy has been gaining significantly the day after his start anyway. He will drop, I think, but not for long. People will buy back in and he'll max out in ownership and price. The real question is what will people do between now and his next start. Will people simply hold even though it ties up $89.77 for 5 days without making a penny?

First and foremost, congratulations to blackjackis21 for finishing off his monthly win. With many players going for it during May, that's impressive. Enjoy the Wii, buddy!

I was very conservative in May with starters. I only took 17 starts total, and won 12 of them. This is compared to 24 starts in April with 6 wins. I only put up 107.2 IP in May vs. 157.1 in April. Of course I nearly equaled my points output (662 in May to 689 in April) due to the improved efficiency. Like mrbig, I was hot down the stretch of the month, getting wins in 6 of my last 7 starts.

The decrease in SP innings was offset by a greatly increased efficiency in relievers. In April I had 140 reliever games and received 36 save opportunities (25.7%), converting 30 of them (83.33%) and posting 55.1 IP. In May I had 158 reliever games (1 more day, less starts, a few double headers), receiving 46 save opportunities (29.1%) and converting 44 of them for a stellar 95.6% save conversion rate in 70 IP. This brought my total pts/ip to 8.17. I posted 6.15 pts/ip for starters this month and 15.53 pts/ip for relievers.

A hot last 10 days helped my hitting average creep above 6 for the month. Total hitting average is 7.29.

mrbig - 100 grand is 100 grand man. I'd play whatever card I had to in your position.

Haha is there anyway Peavy gets rocked by the Nats??? ;-) That's what I have to hope for as I missed the boat getting back into him. I'm going with Kazmir instead and hoping for the best.

Also, Congrats to BJ21. Nicely done man!

Peavy is starting today.
Germano tomorrow.
Bud Black has said he intends to go to every 5 days with Peavy for the near future.
Feels he got a lot of days off early and is in good shape physically.

Hoping he continues on and doesn't derail against the Nats.

Also, congrats to BLACKJACKIS21 for his great May.

Peavy has already gained 2 days on Santana in the last couple weeks. They pitched on the same day pretty recently and now Santana isn't pitching until Sunday.

Thanks guys - also props to 2nd place JMan (and first place for the first weekly $100!). It was a fun month. Unfortunately, I don't think I have enough IPs left for even a run at another weekly prize down the road. Oh well, it will be fun to watch you all duke it out. Good luck to all.

I'm starting to think that the most significant factor for this game is how many IP you get from RP. Whether its luck, skill, or something else, you can make up quite a bit for poor hitters or less-than-stellar SP if you end up with more IP from your relievers.

Case in point - Species is averaging 0.52 pt/g more than me for hitters (7.29 to my 6.72) and 0.46 pt/ip more than me for SP (5.10 to my 4.64). However, I managed 58.3 IP from RP in April (3.2 more IP then Species) and 74.3 IP from RP in May (4.3 more IP then Species). My pt/ip are also slightly higher then Species, but that isn't nearly as significant as having 8.1 IP more.

Basically, just looking at myself and Species, so far he is significantly better at picking hitters and SP, while I am better (or luckier) at picking RP who actually pitch.

Weird.

Utley 19 times at 7.13
Payrod 16 times at 3.72 (ughhh)
Doumit 16 times at 3.87 (that was huge for me considering how bad catcher was in April and I couldn't afford VMart yet)

everyone else just got me 2.81 pts. So its those non-locks that have been a problem for me. I really need to get my hitting on track if I'm gonna have a shot at any prize.

Oops, messed up a calculation. My pt/ip for SP is actually 5.14, negligibly better than Species. Still, he is killing me on hitters and I think my hypothesis still holds true.

OK,
Just went back and looked at where I stand.

May
SP = 5.31 Points / IP
RP = 16.40 Points / IP
Total P = 8.44 Points / IP
Hitters = 5.41 Points / GP

Cumulative
SP = 5.55 Points / IP
RP = 15.40 Points / IP
Total P = 8.22 Points / IP
Hitters = 5.53 Points / GP

So, what's it mean

SP Points per IP Went Down
RP Points per IP went Up
Total Points Per IP went Up
Hitter Points per GP went Down

Biggest good move was up over 2 points / IP for RPs and up 10 innings for RP IP than in April.
Wasn't quite as stable on not taking shaky starts from SPs

136 2/3 IP for RP so far (13.91 avg). That must be what is keeping me alive, as my SP choices have been shaky at best(4.92 avg) and my Hitter avg is not at 7 (6.88).

147-1/3 IP from relievers for me, for which I have an avg of 14.44/IP. Sounds like that's a decent number.

My SP are averaging only 4.5 though, which is not very good. It seems like every time I try a differention pick, it disappoints. (Like Escobar last night.)

Hitters averaged 6.9/GP in April, 5.9 in May.

geez, is there any game tonight that doesn't have a 30 - 40% of heavy thunderstorms ? domes, retractable roofs, and the california games seem to be the only ones immune from the weather. though most, if not all, of the games will probably end up getting played.

Peavy - whatever

Reyes - He's now 0 for 5 on SB attempts when Brandon Webb is pitching. Something for the rest of the league to explore maybe?

I considered going w/ Webb tonight against the Mets B Team, but I made what, at this point, looks like a poor choice in Burnett.

I had a tremendous finish to May, but my June is off to a poor start.

In a last minute decision I took Burnett over Webb.

Saito and Ordonez have bogged down my lineup for the last week, and they both perform the day I dump them.

I took Dunn and his 2,400 OPS over Griffey and his 2,400 OPS (vs. Buckholz) b/c Dunn was up considerably more than Griffey, and I didn't want to get lapped by contenders if he had a huge night.

Hopefully, like last month, i'll get the mistakes out of my system early.

I've had a horrible May and June isn't starting off too well either. Besides Peavy, I also took a shot with Wolf. I have found I have done much better when I don't start a full lineup or use a SP. Oh well.

I just looked at the weekly contest rules, and see that they award T-shirts for finishing 4-100!

That's crazy for a weekly award, especially if it makes you ineligible for 4 weeks.

Then I noticed that I finished #35 for the week, so I guess I should have won a T-shirt as well. However, I received no email. At least, not yet.

It seems like there will be a lot of overlap from week to week, especially if the top 100 teams are awarded prizes each week. There appear to be a lot of teams (like mine) who were not trying for a weekly prize. For example, Species finished in 90th.

Simple solution:

Make each player ineligble to win the same prize twice...

Then everyone will get a Tshirt, but all still have a shot at the top prizes.

However, I can always use a fresh junk T-shirt.

First Linecum now Santana. I really do better when I leave SPs alone. ALso would do better if I lave the guys I had in my lineup for more than a day when they have an off day as I'm chasing the leaving and missing all the good games in hitters. I can usually develop a feel for what's going on and anticipate to some degree of accuracy but it is just not working for me in this game. Too wide open perhaps?

Ugh.

Still had 75.15, so not as bad as it could have been.

Thanks to VMart and Sheff

Ugh again.
Need to decide what to do from a strategy side.
See another group playing for the June prize.

Septembers monthly prize should be interesting.
