0 Subject: Hits for both teams in the same game

In the wake of the ARod 493rd homer situation, here is a story about Dale Holman, who got hits for both teams in the same game in 1986. He was playing for Syracuse, got a hit in the game against Richmond, was released, signed by the Braves, and assigned to play for... Richmond.

Early in the game Holman came up to bat, and with two men on base laced a double that would plate both runs. A short time later the game was suspended and scheduled to be completed at a later date.

Following that nights game, in appreciation for his 2 RBI’s, Holman was released. Holman was then signed by, you guessed it, the Richmond Braves.

So I wonder what are the detailed rules about completing suspended games.

-If a player was not on the roster (maybe he was on the DL) for the original game, can he be included in the makeup portion of the game?

-Theoretically, one team could use 48 players in a single game

What would really be cool is if it was a pitcher who was the last pitcher used by the team behind, but who was currently at bat at the time of the delay. He then comes in for his new team and subsequently blows the lead. If that lead held up, he'd be both the winning and losing pitcher.

Or better yet, the delay happened while someone had a 3-0 count. After the delay the guy who was pitching gets traded to the other team and when the game is picked up, he becomes the batter and the new pitcher subsequently throws ball 4. I believe that guy would get credit for walking himself.

you would think that the rule that says you can't re-enter a game once you've left would apply here, even if you are re-entering for the other team.

I think that the rule is that a team cannot insert a player who has been replaced.

Thought they had to be on the original scorecard in order to play?
