0 Subject: Five years later.. it feels like I just left

Posted by: Craig H - [67351515] Thu, Aug 16, 2007, 17:46

Yesterday, I was talking fantasy sports with some of the young pups at the office and recounting the magical (for me anyway) 2000 Smallworld season.

I decided to pop over and visit Rotoguru for the first time in almost 5 years and it was like stepping into a time machine. I recognized as many posters as not (Guru, Ender,Blue Hen, KrazyKoalaBears,Perm Dude,Species, darkside, Walk and many more).

Seeing all those familiar names has given me the itch to resurrect "James' Gang" and come out of retirement next season.

I hope to see you all then!

Wow, has it been that long? Those were early days for me, but I remember your great season. Trip to the All-Star game that year at Mid-Season IRRC too. I sat out playing SW/TSN since they went to the pay scenario which coincided with some bad experiences with the golf game, but I'm back in this year. You can only stay away for so long.

Yep, 2002 was my last season. Hard to believe.

My wife and I had our 4th son that season and between that and a job that I worked 60+ hours a week, fantasy baseball fell by the wayside.

I have a lot of brushing up to do before next April....

Make sure you jump into a league with me before you get up to speed...I need a chance!

Welcome back!

Actually, I was thinking just the opposite. I want to know which league you're in so I can avoid it and have a chance! ;)

Welcome back!

Right - PD was saying he wanted to be in Craig's league BEFORE he got his skills back.

Welcome back Craig - good to have you along.

5 years is a long time, I'm pretty sure it's not going to come back to me quickly.

I remember 2000, every All Star Break as I watch it from my living room. I stop sometime during the day and curse the name of Albert Belle. I believe he was the difference maker anyway, and even if he wasn't he still deserves it.

It's good to see you haven't fallen off the planet :)

Yep that pickup of Albert(don't call me Joey!) Belle was fortuitous to say the least. I was gambling on a return to his previous monster form which really didn't happen other than those couple of weeks in June that put me over the top.

While he was amazing in June, he pretty much sucked the rest of the season (his last - he retired due to osteoarthritis in his hip).

That memory is just a bit too vivid for me :P I haven't played TSN in 2 or 3 years. I just got tired of it. Of course I turned around and sold my soul to Rotohog this year.

Nice of you to stop by, Craig. I remember that All Star game trip deal was sweet.

Ender - metaphorically selling your soul for a shot at 100 grand is nothing to be ashamed of!

I think I need to take a look at rotohog.

Same crew as in 2000 but a very different board. I pop in now and again but rarely find much useful content. Fact is, this board used to be a team of folks banding together against the world of fantasy sports. Now, with Smallworld gone, it's more of an every man for himself. Other than the "pick the loser" game you won't find much content here.

In short, this board has the same terrific people, but none of the great content that used to help give you an edge on the competition.

It's still there, but it's not as widespread. I personally think that with the amounts of money that are involved guys are playing it pretty close to the vest especially as the season progresses. We have discussed pregame strategy for Rotohog quite a bit for football and baseball. As we wind down baseball season, there's less chatter.

I think most of the people on this board are competing with each other now. Not just in TSN and Rotohog but also in roto leagues.

btw, the "pick the loser" game should be in the baseball leagues/standings forum in my opinion. I think it clutters the board and bumps down discussion threads. if it does belong in the main baseball forum, is it really necessary that it have a new thread every single day?
