0 Subject: Umpire MIke Winters Suspended

From Rotoworld:

MLB suspended umpire Mike Winters for the rest of the season for his conduct during Sunday's game against the Padres.

No suspension at all for Bradley, though one could say he already received his punishment. For MLB to come down like this, Winters must have said some pretty nasty things. We hope that if the remarks were truly racist, Bud Selig and company would be sure to get rid of him in the offseason.

From ESPN

Winters was suspended because the commissioner's office concluded he had used a profanity aimed at Bradley, a baseball official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the reasoning for the suspension was not announced.

Even though umpires are held to a higher standard, players use profanity all the time in baseball. If he called him a piece of ----, then he definitely deserves some sanction or fine or what have you. But it is an accepted practice for players and managers and umpires to argue at times and the exchagne of "pleasantries" is often interlaced with profanity. Most of the time those players/managers are simply ejected and get hit with a small fine. I am not condoing the practice and certainly agree that officials are held to a higher standard, but I can't see him losing his job for this. Winters worked the World Series last year, so this suspension isn't just costing him a week's pay but the entire post-season pot which is shared by all umps and the ones who work get a LOT more.

He messed up for sure. But umpires make hardly anythign when compared to players/managers/coaches. The percentage of which he is being penalized is far greater than any of those. Again, not sticking up for Winters, he was out of line, just putting things in perspetive.

First base coach Bobby Meacham and Black said Winters used profanity. Bradley called it "the most unprofessional and most ridiculous thing I've ever seen."

"It's terrible. And now, because of him, my knee's hurt," he said after the game. "If this costs me my season because of that, he needs to be reprimanded. I'm taking some action. I'm not going to stand pat and accept this because I didn't do nothing wrong."

Sorry Milton, two things can be equally true in this case:

1 - Winters could be very wrong and greatly deserve to be reprimanded for his conduct;

2 - You are a freaking idiot with an out of control temper. If YOU weren't such a hothead to where you MUST be tackled to avoid YOU physically assaulting someone in your workplace, then YOU would not be hurt. Look at yourself dude.....you have a serious problem.

Btw, it was reported that Bradley was cursing at Winters at the same time using worse language. The ump probably should have tossed him when a fan yelled at him and Bradley agreed adn affirmed that the fan was right when expletives were being hurled at the ump at that time. Instead, he called him a piece of ----. Well at least Winters wasn't lying! ;)

Bradley likely won't be penalized because he is hurt now. Bradley definitely started it by calling Winters a liar for saying he threw his bat in the diction of Runge. I'm thinking if the bat toss was blatant and Runge didn't see it, then why didn't Winters toss him then? Also Bradley had said that other umpires said the same thing--not just Winters. What a weird situation. I think they both should be suspended to be honest.

Bradley called it "the most unprofessional and most ridiculous thing I've ever seen."

Has he ever watched a video of himself? I was so glad the Dodgers got rid of him. He is a time bomb who explodes often.

Time for a Bill Klem quote:"An angry player can't argue with the back of an umpire who is walking away."
