Very fun game last night. I'm torn on the NL series though. It'd be great to see the Rockies win the NL this year. I think it would be a big lift for them and would make a great story (but at the same time, aren't they both the two most recent NL expansion teams?).
But I think the Rockies are the more dangerous club this year and would rather not have the Red Sox face them in the WS.
NL: Rockies in 5
AL: Red Sox in 6
And yes, the umps got the intereferance call at 2nd base correct last night. Its one thing to make a hard aggressive slide INTO the bag to break up t he double play. Its another thing to run to the side of the bag and throw yourself into the covering player. |

Manny putting his hands up after he hit one out was one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen. I can't think of one other player who would do something like that. He was just completely oblivious to the situation.

One day he'll realize that makes him look really bad. Its not like that was a 500 foot shot...all it did was bring your team within 4 runs! I don't even think thats worth having CC drill him in Game 5.

Great series so far. It is kind of like both sides were right: Beckett kicked ass and Manny & Ortiz are crushing the ball. Yet the Indians are winning 3-1.
Would love to see CC turn it around at home on Thursday. But the Red Sox will be putting up their very best players and the Indians will certainly have to earn it.
And yes, Manny's gesture was bizarro. There was a reasonable chance he didn't even know the score or situation when he hit it.
Exactly what I was thinking at the time.

I am surprised the Red Sox rolled over the Angels, but Cleveland giving the Sox all they want (and more) should not be a surprise. That's a good club.
Colorado-Cleveland should be a good World Series. It'll be better if the Indians can throw Sabathia as many times as possible, as the Rockies struggle against lefties.

Gotta love the media, always trying to start something or say something for shock value. I love this quote from PD's linked post:
"With a fan base now on the edge, a season on the brink and a stunning collapse just one game away..."
Sorry, but wouldn't a collapse be something along the lines of the Sox were up 3-1 and now suddenly its game 7 and the Indians are going to lose? There's no collapse. There's no need for panic. There's no falling sky. The series is still going on. They play again tomorrow and they win. Then its simply a 1-game playoff. Sorry to disappoint you Mr. Wetzel, but there is no collapse in Boston. It looks like Cleveland is on the brink of a collapse.
I love how he goes on to describe how the Sox are talking about this and that. The Sox are simply stating what mistakes they've made. They're conscious of them and know not to make them again. Its a do or series. The Sox aren't interested in talking about what the Indians did right to win those games. They are interested in talking about what they (the sox) did wrong to lose and fixing those erroes. Stop sensationalizing and enjoy game 7.

This kind of seemed to be the general consensus in the media... that this series was over and people were picking sides with Colorado and Cleveland.
That kind of surprised me considering the Sox were throwing the Cy Young winner for Game 5 and that the last two games were up in Fenway. And its not like they don't know how to make a comeback... 2-0 against Oakland? 3-0 against the Yankees?
I mean, we know they are capable of comebacks and had the best record in baseball this season, yet nobody gave them even a chance to win 3 straight games (with the last 2 at home)?

As bad as some of the Cleveland studs played, they didn't deserve to win it. Red Sox simply outplayed them the last three games.

I think the entire world is expecting a Rockies sweep. They are on a hot streak of monumental proportions. I'm very interested in seeing how the Rockies would respond if they do lose a game.
What will MLB do if it dumps a foot of snow in Denver?

Well, great series with a disappointing outcome. I thought the Indians would stand a good chance because they beat New York while they were playing better at the end of the year than Boston. The difference was the Sox had 4 guys who really upped their game - Beckett, Youk, Ortiz, ManRam.
CC, Fausto, Perez, Hafner, and Grady's struggles couldn't have been more frustrating. You could tell game 7 was going to the Sox with the way the breaks were going to Boston.
Boston is a helluva team. I bet they sweep the Rockies.
