Subject: 2008 Mock Draft...
Posted by: clv
- Sustainer [5911351713] Fri, Dec 21, 2007, 18:58
As usual, a little early, but we started kicking it around one day earlier. Started around the first of the year. I propose using the same criteria as last season to help those in RIBC out...
OBP, SLG, R, RBI, SB W, SV, ERA, WHIP, K
Think it was 14 teams, but haven't gone all the way back through to check just yet. For those interested, I'm game when you are. |

Hmm. How did that happen? Thanks, mjd. Rolen was the guy I wanted.
Incidentally, here's a tip for finding if a guy's been drafted. Enter his name into the textbox, and THEN hit control-F. If you land on what you just entered, then he's available. If any other result happens, try again.

This is how bad a team can look if work and life distracts you from your draft. BTW I already drafted 4 OFers thinking we were doing typical RIBC positions like we did in last years mock so I apologize for that.

BH - Generally I agree with you on Andruw. He was a third rounder the last two years in the RIBC's I was involved in - pretty high too. My comment was more based on his fall than his ability to potentially hit 50 dingers again (doubtful) and post an OPS over .9 (very doubtful).

Update to my team w/ only a few rounds to go:
C: - 1st: Carlos Pena 2nd: Brandon Phillips SS: Hanley Ramirez 3rd: Hank Blalock OF: Vernon Wells OF: Ken Griffey Jr OF: JD Drew Util: Aaron Hill CI: Paul Konerko MI: Dustin Pedroia SP: Daisuke Matzusake RP: Mariano Rivera P: Roy Halladay P: Jason Isringhausen P: Kelvim Escobar P: -
Waiting on 2 more players and I know who I'd like. But I feel overall, I'd gladly take this team into a real league.
I have phenomenal MI depth in a very deep league which means if push comes to shove, I should have a lot of trade options to fill any deficiencies that pop up.
Barring that, with Hanley Ramirez, Brandon Phillips, and Aaron Hill I should be middle to high end of the pack in SB.
With Konerko, Pena, Ramirez, Phillips, Griffey, Drew and Blalock I should be very tough in Slg. Plenty of guys to score runs and drive them in. Though this team is admittedly weak in OBP.
My pitching should keep me very strong in ERA, K's and W's but I will probably struggle for middle of the pack in Whip. And with 2 solid closers so far I should be able to stay middle of the pack in saves as well.
I may have some OF concerns as I just realized all 3 of my OF are probably boom or bust types. They'll either produce great results or be injured and give me crap. Guess that MI core would probably break up around the All-star break.

Yeah so it's not a great team but I can't say I did alot of work on drafting it. I drafted almost entirely from memory until the last few rounds. It's solid in the percentages but the totals would probably be lacking. I was going for the all NL West pitching staff as well. Heck I dunno, it might be better than my team from last year which ended up 8th in AA.

Anyone know of a site that these rosters might be plugged into (even at the end of the year), just to see how they would do with no trades or drop/adds?
I'd even be willing to do the typing in myself.

PD, to do it on yahoo you'd have to set up the league and have all managers register their teams. I'd be willig to do that ad drop it into a league with no trades or add/drops just for gits and shiggles.

Dont worry bh, I assumed that there was still another round left too, so I am without a catcher. The confusion between 17 and 18 rounds came from conflicting reports on whether we were carrying 4 P or 5 P. That's ok though, for the Munson Mock Mobsters, all's well that ends with Austin Kearns.
Thanks everybody. I enjoyed doing the mock draft. It helped me put on my mock thinking cap so I could get my mock brain started for this season. You folks made me happy on days that I was sad. Thanks to all and peace!

Re: 253...
On ESPN, you don't have to have people register. You just sign up as a league manager and set up the team names and assign the players.

wow, talk about the DL. 4 guys there and a 5th just came off yesterday and a 6th just came off a week ago. Tops in DL players in June and hanging in there at 6th. Hey PD, thanks for setting this up. Its interesting to see how things from the mocks actually shake out.
And that is one heck of a FA list we have out there! Too bad nobody clears waivers for another 3 months!!

7th - not bad, considering my catcher was out for the whole season, Putz, Penny were out, and Corpas lost his job. Shows how important FA and backups are to a team's success.

Wow, nice finish. How did that happen? Considering my 3rd baseman spent most of the season on the DL. My second baseman missed the last month of the season. My util slot missed over half the season, one of my OF missed most of the season and another OF missed the last month. A SP who didn't even pitch and a closer who lost his job.
That was definitely an interesting league. Hope we do it again next year.
