Previous Thread

Ok men, invites are out. I sent them via CBS mass mailing so check your spam if you didn't get it.

In the previous thread I mentioned that Cards was going to have to give up his treasury duties for G20 baseball. He informed me today that he was going to have to give up his commish duties as well. His job is becoming increasingly demanding, but he definitely is going to keep his team. He also plans to continue to be treasurer for G24.

Tosh was nominated to take Cards spot and he has agreed to help out. Tosh has already been working with us on this minors thing that CBS has added and he knows CBS really well and commishs his own keeper league using the site. I have asked Cards to keep commish privs (with Species and now Tosh) for emergencies only. In the next few weeks Species and I have some things going on that will be taking our time and attention away from the computer for large blocks of time/day(s).

Please re-read the rules on the league site. Even though they seem long, Tosh informs me that they aren't even close to the detailed rules his league uses. I have to re-read them several times per year myself. Tosh's main concern about coming in and helping out was that he'd have to make a ruling on something he wasn't sure about--or perhaps give bad advice. Hopefully that will not be an issue.

As a reminder, now is the time for any new rule tweaks or proposals. (Prospect changes can also be made prior to that draft). There have been none thus far that I can remember. If we can add minors to our players page it will be discussed but it will be simply admin and will not need a vote. (We're basically seeing if we can add our prospects to our own team page that won't affect the league constraints).

Go ahead and submit it via CBS.

Last chance for Francis or Olly Perez.

I had a lot of interest for Olly early on, but only one person has asked about him in the last two weeks. Francis has had even elss interest.

CBS has Francis ranked in the top 30 pitchers and Olly right behind him in the top 40 overall. Both should be keepers. Olly gets the beneficial Mets ballpark with his team's offense to back him up. Francis is in a hitters park but actually does better at home then on the road and also has a big offense to support him. Both will be taken high in the first round of our draft if I have to throw them back as I'm now planning. So spend a 2nd and keep your first to use toward someone else while upgrading your keepers.

Just got a prospect question that merits posting.

I was asked if they could call-up two guys when the draft starts and forego their last two draft picks.

The answer is yes. In fact, once keepers are final, you may call-up prospects. Once your roster hits 23 players, your draft is over.

If you have remaining picks, you may trade them as they are still your property until that pick before it is made which auto-skips your pick if you still own it.

If they have already hit their thresholds then they would no longer be considered prospects once keepers are final and if they aren't kept as keepers then they become free agents.

Yeah any prospect who have hit their thresholds have already been removed as from the prospect list. Those managers have to keep them if they want to retain their rights. That's why I moved those two players I found to their respective owners so they had teh opportunity to keep them.

The unanimous sentiment from the others with commish privs is to start the draft as soon after the keepers as we can AND start the c clock at the same time.

One of the responses talked about was how we're the last league to even start drafting so everyone is already in full draft mode. Make sense. If we do that, then we could start the draft a few hours after the Keepers are due. If we did that, when you be in favor of keeping the same limits in place as we had last year or would you like to add say an hr to 4 hr per pick limit until Sunday and add time to the c clock?

Last year, only one manager would have timed out anyhow IIRC and for the c clock, only two hit that limit of 12 hrs.

Usually we have this down early but with the weird schedule and availability issues, the thought is to better be early then late.

OK, issue resolved.

Checking things one last time before keepers are being run.

Also, the Species/bmd trade was intentionally made post keeper deadline as Drew was kept as a keeper. So we won't process it until after keeps are run. Apparently bmd has not been around to accept it, but I did read the email agreement from the two and will do it manually if he isn't able to since draft is upon us.

Thanks to the others for helping audit things this morning.

Ok, guys, consider them officially called up--though it will take me a few to get them to your lineups.

In case you see some odd stuff going on, here's what I'm doing. I've changed the settings to allow up to 27 players simply because one team has 4 prospects. Adding all prospects to your respective team and adding a salary through the draft. After draft we will drop them so no one accidently drafts them. If they are not in the CBS database, they can't be added--but our drafting rules don't allow anyone to be drafted who isn't in the db for the supplemental draft.

You may still only go up to 23 players not counting prospects!!! Your draft is over when you hit 23. It's harder to check this way, but drafting prospects is a huge issue and occurred several times before Cards came up with the idea to do it this way a couple years ago.

Remember, all drafting and in-draft discussion will occur in separate threads in the BASEBALL LEAGUES FORUM.

Yeah, Twarpy's team is stacked. I did think of him yesterday though when I saw that Ichiro is 0 for the preseason. Last I saw he was 0-21.

More Housekeeping:

CBS had a default that season started on March 30th. It gave me the option of starting on teh 25th. Since those games will count, we are starting on the 25th.

Add/drops have been turned on for the draft. You will be asked to pick up your own players as soon as you draft them (ask a commish if you can't please) but you may NOT drop anyone until waivers have been turned on.

Trade deadline is the same as always 11:59 pm on Aug 31st. At some point we will switch the settings to 9/1 so it doesn't erase trades, but the actual deadline will still be 8/31.

I HATE that CBS still has a lineup deadline of 30 mins before the scheduled start OF THE FIRST GAME OF THE DAY. I've asked every year to change it to 5 mins befor each game and they always say they will look into it. UGH!!! How can they do it for football and not baseball? They alerady have the code! Don't see them changing it now, but I'm gonna send them yet another note about it.

Trades will be approved by a commish until waivers are turned on. Then those trades will take at least one full day to allow the league a chance to veto. If you have a trade during the draft, it must be approved by a commish. If no one is around you may draft for the other person. Hard to imagine a trade being denied.

There have been no rule change proposals for this year. You may still propose prospects changes up until that deadline before the ASB. I haven't heard of any ideas. People seem pretty happy wit hthe status quo from what I've heard.

Going to start working on draft thread now...

To clarify, trades made before waivers are turned on will try and be approved immediately. Only after waivers hae started will they take at least one full day to be auto-approved.

Do you guys want to switch to ESPN? They lock at game time for each game, or it can be like CBS if you prefer...

The Draft Thread is open and we are underway. First three have been emailed.

We now move our discussion to our draft discussion thread in the Baseball Leagues Forum.

Why did we decide it was better to not start waivers until after the first games? I propose in the future we just run them after we are done drafting. I sure don't see anybody adding and dropping a bunch of players in the first two games if waivers were turned on, for one, most players worth owning are already owned, and two, in order to add a player someone else would have to be dropped from their team already. I don't see how these two games are any different than the single regular season game on March 30th?

We're still using our draft discussion thread until waivers are started. Do have a poll for the league about this very question.
