JTSERB is it possible to do list the first round players for over the weekend and then just not have the clock start till monday. I imagine these players could have quite a large amount of bidding activity so it may be helpful to get their bidding started. but of course if someone wasnt around they wouldn't miss out. just a way we could get another round in early. Not sure iof this is practical as Ive never done a draft like this but could be good way to save time.

Email sent everyone. Would anybody be against starting the draft tomorrow? Or prefer to start on a monday?

I suggest we start the way the football league started with open bidding starting at Time X (Tomorrow 6pm CST?) and then starting the clock at 7am CST Monday.

Also I'd be willing to help keep track of who wins who in a spreadsheet to lend a hand. I work in front of a computer so I'll be here most of the time.

i say we start tonight. if we start after 5 pm the 1st guy wont come off the clock til tomorrow noon at the earliest, but chances are it will be monday some time. everyone should post 1 player that want to put up. Clock and bidding wont start til all players are up.

Tomorrow sounds good with the clock starting Monday.

JT are you going to name the first 13 without bids attached or do you want everyone to name a player with a bid to start?

And now is definitely the time for any more questions and rule clarifications that could affect the draft so we can be ready for the clock Monday

Woah, Id be against starting tonight. I like the idea of starting tomorrow and a clock on Monday, and review the rules tonight. I understand the urgency of starting soon to be done, but theres a couple of things I'd like to look at first.

I want everyone to post their own player. I think their is some strategy taken away If i post all 13.

And jackhammers is correct. Please everyone if any questions on the rules PLEASE ASK NOW

Wiggs I would start now, but only problem is I haven't heard from Philly today. I don't want him to be behind.

But we can have everybody post their player and their bid on him, but we will not start the clock until tomorrow at 3 pm central. How does that sound everyone?

1. I don't believe players should be posted before tomorrow or the clock should start till Monday morning. I stated before that this Sunday is the one day this preseason when I cannot be available (first half of day anyway). In addition I wish time to run projections, calculate values, and determine strategy. At the moment I'm not even sure we will have 14 teams.
Having everyone post one player with no clock for the weekend will get us off to a start anyway.

2. Just to confirm -- we're really going with a CI, an MI, and 3 OF? We'll be the only league in the world with those settings.

toral, need time to run projection? I dont know what you have been doing for the past month.

What difference will it make if players are posted tonight or tomorrow if there is no clock.

Ok, I talked to a couple members and we will start the clock on Monday 7 AM Central Time.

Tomorrow starting at 7 AM. We will allow posting of the first set of players for the auction.

There is no order of who can post everyone just needs to make sure that they post 1 player that is not already posted.

Toral, what is wrong with 1 MI, 1 CI, and 3 OF?

1. Re rules -- never mind. Just got e-mail with final rules.

2. wiggs -- projections change every day. And as I stated above, until a few hours ago I did not even know how many teams we are going to have in this league.

I don't know if you have noticed but the league contains managers with a wide variety of experience in the auction format. If you intend to have an attitude and make remarks like this in response to simple suggestions as to timing let me know and I will cancel out immediately.

you have got to be fricking kidding me. Are you seriously going to act like that because I asked you what the difference is? It makes absolutely NO difference if you put them up tonight or tomorrow There is no clock I think you need to relax or it will be a long season.

There was to be a thread for draft discussion, and I hope it gets started.

For follow-up bids, like in the football thread someone linked to, can we just say

Smith $21

rather than repeating all the identification information?

I was just going to ask the same thing DB. How long does a player stay on the board?

I don't believe this question has been authoritatively answered but I was assuming that post 58 would govern how long a player stays on the board.

Although our clock, whatever it is, isn't starting till Monday so no one will win anybody till then.

When do we know if we have won a player?

you will win a player after they have not had a bid on them for 12 hours on the weekend or 8 hours on a weekday. The thing you need to remember is if a player is not bid on for 11 hours and 59 minutes and then someone bids on them the clock will restart for another 12 hours. This works out good because with people at work, or away for the weekend they dont miss out on players.

And when can we nominate a 2nd player

you nominate a player after winning a player. I, or someone will post

Wiggs won Babe Ruth for 1 dollar.
his remaining balance is 259 for 25 players

please nominate another player.

hope this helps.

Everybody PLEASE get in the habit of using FIRST and last name when bidding. Please. Right now its not affecting much. But what about when Hanley and Manny Ramirez are both up there? There are too many players that WILL be bid on that share last names.
I don't know if this is a rule or not, but its certainly not an unreasonable request.
