0 Subject: TSN Ultimate Baseball Launched.

It's been several years since I've played Ultimate baseball, but due
to my good fortune during the football season I have a bunch of
tokens to use.

I'm wondering if any of you guys are playing this year, and if there
is a Roto-Guru division. Thought it might be a nostalgic trip to
play a couple of team this year.

I played last year for the first time in ages. I played in the Guru-Patron division that Guru hosts for rotoguru donors to join. I'm not sure if there were any other rotoguru divisions or not. People seem to like to spread out into public divisions to win the division prize.

I also played last year for the first time in ages and had a stud playing in one of my auto-divisions. Actually two, but I beat one of them. I finished the lowest I ever did and didn't win anything but tokens. Doubt if I'll have the time this year, but with the tokens, I thought about the possibility of having a team anyhow. It's so long. It gets to be a grind more than it is fun. I'm a trade-aholic too and that causes more grind! ;)

Last year, I played for the first time in five years, and actually won the Rotoguru division! And I finished 10th in the Prize Standings. I guess I should probably quit while I'm ahead, but I think I am going to play this year. I recommend getting in the Rotoguru division - it's more fun when you know your competitors a little bit.

GuruPatrons can find the password for the GuruPatron division at the bottom of the GuruPatron validation page.

From the bottom drop down list to the right, select "GuruPatron Validation". You enter your handle and password and say reset cookies on this machine. The site will then recognize you.

I haven't played TSN for a number of years but decided to buy one team this season. It has been long enough where I could use some help with strategy. When I last played, there were threads discussing this, web sites that calculated buys and sells for hitters and pitchers, and sites that helped to figure out when to buy and sell. (I think that one was called something like "Bad Poet.") TSN also used some formula to dampen the price swings of pitchers. Would appreciate some help. Thanks.

loki

definitely less discussion on these boards of the ultimate game (none?)

but in terms of bad poets site. last year TSN blocked outsiders ability to pull data from there site doing away with ownership features. This year theey say they are going to offer the same kind of raw data that BP offered. We will see how they do.

In terms of pitcher changes they are no one a 5-day cycle so as not to ahve large peaks between pitchers starts. It doesnt really mute the gains as players still gain in the same increments. It makes pitcher movers pretty predictable.

Any other questions..ask

I posted a preliminary version of sortable stats.

The points for 2007 are not adjusted for the formula change. This year, relievers are awarded 5 points for a hold. The rest of the point formula is unchanged.

Assimilator is not yet updated with new players and prices.

The GuruPatrons division in TSN Ultimate has 10 members, so it is already prize eligible.

But if any other GuruPatrons want to join, password information is at the bottom of the GuruPatron validation page

Anyone still doing day(s) late strategy?

This was my preferred strategy until they changed the rules last year. I am still trying to do it despite the rules and figuring out the best approach. Last year I waited till Wednesday and found that that was one day too long. I had to abandon the team by the end of the week.

This year I am trying a different approach. One team I filled out my roster this morning with the obvious first trains (lyon, gwynn, penny) and took a best guess on those positions still without a standout (c, 3b, 1b).

That's my first team. With my other, I'm being much more experimental. I've drafted only those positions with obvious trains and holding another day or two to fill out the rest as they become apparent. Without a valid roster I will get no points, but I still get the price bump. Curious to see which team comes out ahead in $$ and reserved trades by the end of the week.

I am doing a daylate team this year but dont think I will be filling out a roster today. There didnt seem to be many standout cheapies. Dont think anyone under 3 mill broke 20 points. Currently my roster has just lyon and gutierrez on it and I may add a few more but i don't feel I saw enough to fill my roster. Also is penny that set to make money? who is buying him with him not pitching for 5 days?

That's what I thought until I noticed he was all over the TSN boards. I looked him up and he is only 5.26 mill, so the combo of the great start, low price and sudden popularity persuaded me to buy into him. Plus, I looked at all the matchups between now and his next start, and didn't find anything that really excited me.

well since I am not filling my roster for today anyway i will just see if he gains tonight. If its going to be <50k its not really worth buying in 4 days early. If he makes more maybe i can look into it

Yea. He and Lyon are the only two I picked up, so that leaves three more spots for other closer trains to present themselves.

You expect to have your roster fully filled out tomorrow or would you wait even another day (or two)? I can see a lot of value in waiting several days so as not to have to burn any trades and be into each train, but I wonder how wise it is to go too many days without netting any points.

I imagine i will have it filled tomorrow. Lose out on too many points otherwise. Just want to see a few more players define themselves as sure trains.

Assimilator roster copy button is now installed. Be aware, however, that the cash balance may be slightly off, because the franchise value currently reported at the TSN site is incorrect for many teams.

Is there a way to help determine when to buy and sell a player? For instance, how can one tell when it would be a good time to sell Pagan, Kleppinger and Lyon, and when Wood will stop dropping and buy anticipating a rise based on his low price and current performance? Thanks.

Loki, you can see the tend rather easily. If you have made a lot of money on a player chances are everyone else did as well. When the first negative money day pops up it is probably a good time to sell. Just a hint if you have Pagan sell him before he plays tomorrow. -150k easily.

I'm trying to recall from prior seasons, but perhaps Pagan's -10K yesterday was as much a function of his day off yesterday as anything else. Certainly there is nothing wrong with his production for his price.

reebbertxx, it seems, after scrolling through the TSN forums that you are one of the biggest proponents of moving Pagan. And there are a significant amount who posted there that they are holding him, including last years overall winner.

Is this a reaction to the screw up by TSN in their pricing as regards the Guttierez situation, one they have acknowledged to have corrected?

Other than widespread panic that there will be a huge money loss, there isn't any valid reason to trade a player who costs $1.59 mill and averages over 15 points per game. It's impossible to trade everyone who drops 10K, even arguably one of the most widely owned players.

I find it interesting that, in looking at your roster you have held Cantu for over $350K in losses, a player averaging 2.2 points per. Why so anxious to move a much more productive Pagan? I bet those that traded early out of Keppinger after his first game or so regret it .

Dave, I guess it may seem like I have an agenda with Pagan, I don't. I was just calling it like I see it for someone who asked. I did the same with Wood at the beginning of the year on the TSN boards. For sure Pagan was done making money and had nothing but downside. He lost 130k tonight and I would expect more of the same everyday the rest of the week until his losses end after trades refresh on Thursday.

I understand the TSN pricing screw up, but the Guttierez situation is still probably fresh in everyones mind and that had to have some effect on Pagan whether it be justified or not.

As for your Cantu point I agree, as I posted at TSN, that Cantu to Johnson was a good move and I made that move on several teams. But if you didn't have enough cash for Johnson straight up I did not feel like it was worth that extra trade to upgrade and there was nobody else appealing. Personally I like Cantu and think he will hit, but that's another debate.

With far less teams, the dumbass moves affect us all a lot more.

At least TSN fixed Price-Gate. Haven't been that upset in a long time, but it totally destroyed my strategy I had in place. Made mvoes and non-moves not worth it.

Yea, that pagan dropping 130k is just plain dumb. No way im trading a guy what that production for the price.

It has been 3 years since I played this game and I don't really remember how the pitcher prices go. I know it is based off a 5 day cycle, but when can you expect a pitcher to go up? The days leading up to his start? The days after his start? What about losing money? If someone could help me out I would appreciate it.

You really can't generalize. It all depends on trading patterns, which are not uniform.

Re: Pagan-- I think looking at his current TSNP/g is pretty meaningless. We all know these things will normalize. Pagan is not a 15/game player. Personally, I held thru last night hoping for a smaller loss, but will not hold any longer.

I was going to hold him, but I decided to sell him x3 just because I think the losses will be to great. He did have a pretty good game again today though.

I hope you followed your own advice, Dave. Pagan has averaged 19.7 TSNP/game in the last 3 days while losing 400K. With new trades today, he might even see a slight bump in his price and could regain a lot of that 400K this week.

I bought Pagan again today I forsee maybe up .10 tonight and if he has another good game he will skyrocket again.

Pagan is still on 40% of rosters. I don't think he can really sky rocket.

With hitter trades just replenished, this seems like a risky day to buy. There might be some pent up sell pressure (teams that were out of trades until today) that will be pushed through today.

Pagan up 40k, even better then the estimated .10 I had :) Had a couple hits tonight should go up 80k tomorrow i am guessing.

But it begs the age-old question of: how much is a trade worth?
