0 Subject: Any interest in a 2nd RIBC AA league?

Posted by: Guru
- [330592710] Mon, Feb 25, 2008, 17:24

Last year, we had two AA leagues for the RIBC. So far this year, one has been formed. There is still time to form a second one, although it should get done within the next week or so in order to get the draft started with ample time.

If anyone is interested in joining such a league, please indicate that here, along with an email address where you can readily be reached. In addition, we would need someone to be the commissioner. Without a commish, the league is a no-go.

Standard RIBC rules apply. 16 team league. Other particulars are in post [1] of this thread.

For those who haven't seen it. HEre are the league settings:

Season Type: Full
Draft Type: Offline Draft
Max Teams: 16
Scoring Type: Rotisserie
Player Universe: All baseball
Max Moves: No maximum
Max Trades: No maximum
Trade Reject Time: 1
Trade End Date: August 24, 2008
Waiver Time: 2 days
Can't Cut List Provider: None
Trade Review: Commissioner
Post Draft Players: Follow Waiver Rules
Max Games Played: 162
Max Innings Pitched: 1350
Weekly Deadline: Daily - Tomorrow
Start Scoring on: Monday, Mar 24
Roster Positions: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, CI, MI, OF, OF, OF, OF, Util, SP, RP, P, P, P, P, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN
Stat Categories: R, RBI, SB, OBP, SLG, W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP

The draft will be an offline slow draft run at the kafenatid website. My plan for the draft is to have a 6 hour clock with a nightly and weekend clock pause. In order to finish the draft by the opening game (March 25th) we'll have to stick to this clock. I strongly urge everyone to set up a draft queue and assign designated pickers in the event that you may be unavailable for any prolonged period of time that would slow down the draft.

As far as draft order, we will follow the RIBC standard ad hold a lottery to select draft position. We will first randomly rank the teams and the first team will get to select their draft position. The second team gets to select their position next and so forth.

Once we have 16 teams, we'll start the draft lottery and get everything going. Hopefully we'll get the last four teams today and be able to get the draft going by the end of the week.

Regarding those who are already in a AAA league:

If there are openings in a AA league that need to be filled, then a AAA manager can also play in a AA league. However, priorities should be given to new managers.

You'll probably want to get this league started fairly quickly, so there is no need to hold spots open for an extended period. The commish will need to decide when to cut and run.

Where can I go to find the scoring rules, so I know how to earn
points or whatever?

Also, what is the difference between an SP, an RP and all those P's?

What's a CI (Corner inf)? an MI (middle Inf)?

Who can be a UT or BN player?

Here is a set of random numbers for draft order:

12, 14, 5, 13, 8, 4, 3, 7, 11, 2, 15, 9, 1, 6, 16, 10

If someone offers a second set, Jason will be ready to go!

Not a points league. Rotisserie-style scoring.

There are 10 statistical categories, 5 for hitters and 5 for pitchers. Each team accumulates these stats, and then each category is independently ranked. If your team has the most steals, you get 16 points in that category. If you have the fewest steals, you get 1 point.

Each of these ten category ranks is then summed to develop a team score.

You can see last year's final standings as an example.

For hitting, the categories are runs, RBIs, steals, on base average, and slugging percentage. For pitching, the cats are wins, saves, strikeouts, ERA, and WHIP.

To answer Judy's questions:
The scoring is rotisserie format. There are 10 stat categories and each team is ranked 1-16 in each category based on their statistical output. For example if you lead the league in strikeouts, you get 16 points for strikeouts. If you are last in the league in SB's you get 1 point for SB's. Your league rank is based on your overall point total.

There is one dedicated starting pitcher slot and one dedicated relief pitcher spot. The remaining 7 pitchers spots can be taken by either a starting pitcher or a releif pitcher. How you use those slots is up to you and one of the key decisions you will make as a manager.

CI stands for Corner Infielder and can be used as either a first or third baseman.

MI stands for Middle Infielder and can be used as either a second baseman or shortstop.

Util can be any hitting position. Some players that never play the field (i.e. Frank Thomas) can only be used in the Util slot.

Bench players can be any player hitter or pitcher.

Once the league roster is finalized we will decide a draft order and I will send out an e-mail with instructions on how to register for the league (on Yahoo) and the draft (on Kafenatid).

In order to balance the conflicting objectives of getting the draft going and keeping the league open as long as possible for new people, let me suggest the following approach.

Thursday (tomorrow) morning, begin the draft order selection process. I will establish a random order of all new managers for this round, and those managers may begin selecting their draft position. If there are still open spots (ignoring the AAA waiting list), we will keep those spots open until it is time for those teams to select their draft position. At that time, any unfilled slots will be filled, either by new managers or from the waiting list. Once the draft order is completely set, you may begin the draft as soon as you wish.

This should allow you to get things moving, while still keeping the league open for another day or so, depending on the speed of your selection round.

Jaydog can go ahead and register the draft at kafenatid now, since it is clear that we have enough to fill the league. He can then send out registration info to the 13 new managers.

That gives us 15 guaranteed spots with one spot left for a duplicate team in another league. I'll wait another hour or so for another unique team to join and if we don't get one the last spot will go to jkaye@work.

I'm registered at both Yahoo and Kafenatid. My team is Brooklyn BMFs. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but when are we planning to have the draft ready to go on Kafenatid? Also, is there like a time limit rule? Not that I'm at all uptight (not that it would matter) but in the past I've blog drafted with some def flakes and have waited for over 24hrs for a pick? Is there like an autopick time limit or something?

Alrighty. The league has been set. I will wait for the Guru to run the teams through his randomizer so we can start the draft lottery. Anyone else that signs up on this forum will enter a waiting list in case one of the first 16 teams does not respond or join the league within the next 24 hours.

To each of the 16 teams below. Please make sure that your signed up for the draft as soon as possible so we can get started. Once the teams are randomized we will start selecting draft positions. Once draft positions are finalized, the draft will begin.

Once it goes timed -- there is generally a 6 hour clock with time
out for nighttime. It looks like our group might go faster though -
- esp if people use queues. Last year in FB, we kept it going over
the weekends and it was fine. Gotta move fast with the season so
close this year.

Gotta get everyone registered on Kafentid first.

SamP,

I like your style.

The draft will begin right after the order is set. Hopefully we'll be able to start tomorrow morning. The first round will be untimed as everyone gets used to the kafenatid system but after round one each pick will be on a 6 hour clock. Obviously you are encouraged to pick as soon as possible to keep things moving quickly. There will be a clock pause between 10pm eastern and 8am eastern each day as well as over the weekend.

In the event that you may not be able to make timely picks I highly encourage you to take advantage of a draft queue in kafenatid. You can set up a list of players and then have a designated picker choose either the top player or any player from your queue.

In the event that you do not make a pick within 6 hours and do not have a draft queue set up, the pick will move onto the next player. You can make up the pick at any time but run the risk of the player you want being taken by the time you make your pick.

If you have any more questions please let me know. Keep posted for the draft order selection process.

Once the draft starts you'll see a section called queue management. You simply add whatever players you want to the list and then order them by priority. You won't be able to do this untill the draft starts.

jaydog --

How about a 6 am to 11 pm Eastern clock. The 10 pm is only 7
pm on the west coast and some people are still eating dinner.
Also 6 am eastern plus the 6 hours gives the west coasters time
to wake up, eat breakfast and make a pick before work!

Just a thought -- we might get time crunched.

We still need to set the draft order...that could take all day
tomorrow...
