0 Subject: Drafting with LF CF and RF

I've been drafting baseball for 6 or 7 years now? Every league I have ever been in has been just simply and OF slot (whether its 3 or 4 its was simply OF). I'm doing a live yahoo draft tonight and I just realized the OF is actually CF RF and LF. This will be my first one.

Does anybody have any advice? Which position is the deepest, which is the weakest? Where are the speed and/or power guys likely to be? Sorry to ask others to do this homework for me but I just realized it and have a total of maybe 1 1/2 hours prep time between now and then.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My intra-office league does it that way. 12 teams and 9 offensive positions (C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, RF, CF, UT). draft peek.

LF is like 3B in that there is 4 or 5 studs at the top, then a gap before the rest.

It really is not that much different in terms of the early rounds, the usual OFers will go where they usually do.

For quickie preparation at this point. Make sure you check Yahoo as there are a bunch of outfielders are position eligible in multiple positions.

If you go to your league and click on available players, you should be able to look at just RF'ers if you want. Some players can play more than one or all three.

The live draft will also sort the outfielders by RF,LF,CF. In between turns you can look at what is going on with just CF'ers if you want. Who has been taken, who is the highest ranking remaining. By your rankings or by Yahoo rankings.

I would say CF is probably the shallowest position and LF the deepest, with RF somewhere in the middle, closer to LF.

I agree with above though that in the early rounds I wouldnt worry about position, and in the later rounds look for the guys who play 2 or 3 of the positions, as I am sure many OF qualify.

I have never played CF LF RF before but it would be interesting. CF is a richer position now but there was a time where CF was like SS and 2B. I could envision CF's going off the board early like MI's.

Well, its done. It was pretty fun. Its a standard 5x5 roto league with 10 managers. I drafted in the 4 slot. Here is how it turned out:

1. (4) Hanley Ramírez SS
2. (17) Alfonso Soriano LF,CF
3. (24) Mark Teixeira 1B
4. (37) Brian Roberts 2B
5. (44) Garrett Atkins 1B,3B
6. (57) Scott Kazmir SP
7. (64) Félix Hernández SP
8. (77) Vernon Wells CF
9. (84) José Valverde RP
10. (97) Rich Hill SP
11. (104) Huston Street RP
12. (117) Jermaine Dye RF
13. (124) Dustin McGowan SP
14. (137) Willy Taveras CF
15. (144) Rafael Soriano RP
16. (157) Geovany Soto C
17. (164) George Sherrill RP
18. (177) Jeremy Hermida RF
19. (184) Edwin Encarnación 3B
20. (197) Reggie Willits LF,CF,RF
21. (204) Troy Percival RP
22. (217) Melky Cabrera LF,CF
23. (224) Orlando Hudson 2B
24. (237) Ty Wigginton 1B,2B,3B

It was a little rough. The way things were going I was hoping to grab Sizemore in R2 but he went the pick before me. I had Brandon Phillips targetted then for round 3 but he went 2 picks before me.

In round 5 I debated between Atkins and jumping into pitching with Cole Hamels. I didn't think either would make it back to me but went with Atkins as I felt I was power light still. Hamels went next (the guy who grabbed Sizemore of course).

R11 Jason Bay was all qued up and went the pick before me, so of course I went pitching.

I'm guessing that I'm definitely winning the S category. It seemed as if the whole rest of the league punted this category. I absolutely had no need for Troy Percival at 21, but why leave a legit closer on the wire for somebody else when I can grab him and trade him to the needy? I'm very happy with my SP and don't see many other teams that have a top 3 that I feel can compete with mine in K's era/whip except for 1 (he has bedard, hamels and myers).
