The season is underway in Japan with an extra inning game. Looks like both closers are having poor outings. |

I have it worse. On my Rotohog team I have Drew who was scratched at the last minute and Street who I picked up because Paps was sold out. To make matters worse, I'm now sleep deprived as well.

The beauty of Opening Day is looking over the list of all my Yahoo teams and see that I'm "Tied for first" in every league.

Just wait until tomorrow's Yahoo standings. Street's and Papelbon's ERAs and WHIPs will rank their owner's teams higher than those who have no ERA or WHIP yet.

I got a question — why was this not a Sox-Mariners game? Ichiro and Johjima are obvious draws. I know the Sox spent the 50mil on Dice-K more for tapping into the Japanese market than anything so I wonder if they lobbied hard to get the worst possible opponent (here, the A's, who are essentially fielding a minor league team this year) to best insure a win and that the spotlight would remain on them. The only connection the A's have to Japan is their catcher and he is two or three generations removed.

The first game of the season goes the WS champions and the computer generates the schedule. So whoever the comp draws for the WS champs to face first gets the game.

I'm pretty sure these teams were selected the middle of last year, so if it is the defending MLB champs who get invited, lets look for the conspiracy ;)
I'm pretty sure the Red Sox were chosen because of Matsusaka and their global appeal. I am surprised MLB could not arrange for Seattle to be the opponent. Most teams do not want to give away two home gates.
A few years ago opening up in Japan it was Yankees/Rays, a few years before that it was Mets/Cubs, and I believe in 2003 it was going to be Mariners/A's but that was cancelled a week before because of security concernse with the timing with the start of the war in Iraq.
