Just that its nice to be comfortable and have a buck in your pocket, but you'll never really hit the jackpot without having a few "lottery tickets" too.
I think Slizz and myself have copyrighted the lottery ticket methodology of fantasy managing lol...

I'd say Francoeur and Burton are both lottery tickets. I wouldn't even say that Francoeur is a better one. Burton's upside is as a closer, and I'm already way up there in saves this year and have two closers on my roster who I have been actively trying to peddle (three if you count Chad Cordero, who fits that description).

I'd rather gamble on finding a hitter worth keeping. The odds are longer, but the result is better, if it happens.

Ref, I don't think you'll find too many relievers who are young, have a good K rate, are among the first who will lay claim on a closer job, and have an ERA anywhere near Burton. I know this because I've been looking for them all season. If you can find anybody, let me know and I'll see if I can pick em up.

According to WIFN's Bill Shanks, the Braves have sent Jeff Francoeur to Double-A and are calling up Jason Perry to replace him.

We were hoping to get some additional confirmation here, but it's looking like that will be impossible until the morning. It's perfectly reasonable for the Braves to believe that Francoeur would have an easier time breaking out of his slump in the minors than in the majors, but they're taking a big defensive downgrade by subtracting him from their outfield and they don't have any great choices to replace him. Jordan Schafer isn't hitting in Double-A, and while the Braves have been hyperaggressive with top prospects before, they're not going to haul up Jason Heyward from low-A ball this year. Perry, a quad-A player with big numbers this year, gets the nod and probably would have even if Brandon Jones happened to be eligible to rejoin the team. Still, he may only stick until Matt Diaz returns. Ideally, Francoeur would put a few good games together and rejoin the team right after the break.

I'll email everyone as well just in case, but the deadline to renounce any prospect is the freeze MONDAY--which looks like will be 12:10 PM ET. At that time, the draft picks will be set. If any player is found to be illegal, they will be lost. Cards and I have went skimmed over them and identified a few. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. See our prospect rules for help.

Remember that if your prospect hits the threshold after the freeze, then that player will have to be kept as part of your 9 if you'd like to retain him for next year. So strategize accordingly.

Standings for the draft order and lottery draw will be determined after Sunday's games (Mon morning).

Lastly, Myself, Tosh and Species are all unavailable to start the draft on the 14th. My availability will also be severely limited at times Sun-Tues this week. Hopefully Cards will be able to kick off the draft for us. I'll try and get everything ready but I will be out of town three days prior to that as well (11-14 all told) and unsure of access. Most of you have done this so much, it shouldn't take a lot.

With Marte renounced, there are no more prospects remaining whow ere drafted in the first round. There are still three left who were drafted in our first draft (all Rd 3). There are still 8 players drafted in the first two drafts (first 5 rounds) whose limits are still grandfathered under the original prospect limits.

I can pretty up the gird a little later. The grid balances. 33 Prospects kept. 27 picks. Take a look and make sure I didn't make any mistakes.

Since Tosh, Species and myself are going to be out of contact for the start of the draft and Tosh and I even longer, I am going to get everything set up ahead of time. I will even get the threads set up in THE BASEBALL STANDINGS FORUM. Note that you will not be allowed to make any selections before Noon ET on Monday of the all star break. Cards will be available to help administer the draft if anyone needs assistance.

A couple quick notes...after the freeze on Sunday, no players will be allowed to be picked up who are prospect eligible unitl the draft is declared over. 3 hour per pick time limit. 4 hour total. No one has more than two picks (species traded away his first pick).

A draft-eligible prospect is defined as a hitter that has less than 150 AB or a pitcher with less than 55 IP or 20 GP and has not been on your active roster within one week prior to the draft. They do not need to be in CBS player database, but can not be still in high school/college, etc. They need to either be on a pro team, drafted by a team, or a current free agent/professional Japanese or Cuban player.

Last year's prospect draft

If you have a prospect trade only that does not invlove a player off your team, you can post it here and confirm. If it involved a squad member, it still needs to go through CBS. During the draft if you have a trade involving a player and a prospect, you will most likely need to put it on CBS and have the other manager draft the player in question as to allow for manager review of the trade.

This means no one may add a prosepct-eligible person via FA on your regular team. This rule is in place to protect the integrity of the draft. Since there are no games going on anyway--it won't hurt you to wait until after the draft if he's not drafted.

BH and the head programmer for ESPN's site has been working with us to try to make their site work with us. It's not able to do so yet but some of the issues will be fixed in time for next year. Still others may not be. Working on it. BH made us a league and we have worked on things.

He's not exactly the head programmer. But he is in the fantasy group and is a good way to get things done.

What I'd like to see, either here or on the ESPN league page, is a full list of what would be needed to run G20 on ESPN. That way, we can work through the list and get as many of them as possible into the ESPN fantasy roadmap.

Holy crap - Brett Gardner was a walk-on at my college! (Charleston) but he plays for the stupid Yankees, boo.... I'm so conflicted.
