0 Subject: Daily batter vs. pitcher report

Posted in today's blurb, and repeated here for those who don't read them:

If you like to look at pitcher-vs.-batter stats, I built a simple tool that looks up all of a given day’s matchups and spits them onto a single page. You just need to supply the date as the last three characters of the URL. Here’s an example for Sunday, July 13:

http://rotoguru1.com/cgi-bin/dailyhit.pl?date=713.

The format isn’t fancy, but it sure beats punching in a bunch of different links. The data is extracted from ESPN.com, so it’s based on their projected starters. You can click on any hitter link from the output page to see more ESPN detail for that hitter, or click on a column link to see corresponding pitcher detail. Feel free to use it if you wish. It works well if you use it before any games have started on the specified day. I’m not sure what happens if you try it after a game has started. I suspect some data is missing in that event.

wow awesome!!!! Would it be possible to add totals for an entire team? For example, The current Orioles are 0-19 against Clay Buchholz with 7Ks.

Is that really meaningful, though? The hitters usually include some who are inactive.

Sweet! Nice job, Guru.

Do you plan on adding some features, like limiting to those with 10 or more ABs?

Not planning to add features. It's just a simple screening tool, intended to pull up a bunch of data on one click, rather than having to forage for it, pitcher by pitcher.

The batter vs pitcher data is updated overnight, so it won't be updated during the game. There are also three related tools that might help you a bit:

7-Day Probables Chart

30-day schedule chart

Today's lineups, as soon as they come out.

Very nice new toy Guru! I think it can be very useful to extract that extra bit of info someone is looking for.

Now, would think about adding a "Health Forum" so we can discuss such wonderful items such as my son's recent "collarbone v. ground" experience (which, by the way, the ground won);) ?

BUTT -

Just a reminder to those who may have forgotten (or never known about) these tools.

BH-- what do the different colors mean on your 7 day pitching chart?

Red is a game vs. one of the five best offenses or at Coors. Green is a game vs. one of the five worst offenses. See bottom of page for who that is.

I see that they are based upon the 2008 stats. Will the teams change sometime in the year to reflect the current trends?

Furthermore, it looks as if the optimal matchup would be if your teams starter is in the green and going against a team in the red. I notice this doesn't happen often.

For instance, it looks like Jackson of Detroit (green team) today is a shoo-in vs. Seattle (red team). Does this make him an automatic pickup IYO?

Hardly...

If the Tigers decided to pitch me in today's game, I'd be in green. That's hardly qualifies me as a good pickup.

It'll switch over to 2009 on May 1st. And really, that would only be a good bet if you were looking for a win. But using 2008 stats right now might not be as helpful. The key is to call out games that might be good matchups. Honestly, I usually just use it to see all the probables on the same page.

Is this feature going to be available for 2010?

Yes, that's the plan. The URL will be slightly different that what's posted above, however. I'll post it when it's ready next week.

is there any way to have a feature where you click on a column like homeruns to have it sort from top to bottom the guy with the most homeruns against the pitcher he is facing that day?

Not the way it's set up now.

Program is set up at DailyBaseballData.com.

Hover over the Batter vs. Pitcher menu item, and then select the date.
