Sorry, Great One, I'm beating you to the punch.

Y'all had a nice run, thirteen straight years of at least one playoff game win. Time for some fans in Tampa to experience October.

I think this is generally good for baseball and NOT bad for the Yankee franchise. It's important to miss the playoffs - makes it that much more special when you get back in.

Right about now, the biggest problem in baseball might be the draft. The Yankees just get the best players there while other teams worry about signability.

Whats good for baseball is Tampa Bay. With the past success of Oakland and now TB we have a pretty good run of teams proving that you can win thru your own farm system. A good draft, good prospects, good farm system good scouting=a contender.

what is wrong with baseball now is the bridge between what TB has done and what the yankees did when they were winning (via FA and spending).

As a Sox fan I'm worried to say that the Yankees may be working on that bridge. They have greatly improved their farm system over last few years. And their spending is still in a category of its own. They've got some good young prospects and can fill the voids with whomever they like from the Scott Boras..err free agent pool.

I acutally see that in reverse Khahan. I almost think that Tampa Bay making it is a bad thing for baseball in general.

I am thinking that some of the powers that be in MLB might use Tampa Bay making the playoffs as a reason to NOT impose some sort of salary cap structure, which is so desperately needed in a league of Kansas City's, Pittsburghs, and the rest.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Right about now, the biggest problem in baseball might be the draft. The Yankees just get the best players there while other teams worry about signability.

Yes the draft is a problem....MLB implemented the slotting system to try to force teams to pay contracts/bonuses according to the slot a player was drafted....but it's as flimsy as a wet noodle. The Yankees - and quite stupidly, I might add - have been FAR from the largest benefactor of the slotting system, however. Boston and Detroit (most recently) have flexed their financial muscle in many of the recent drafts (i.e. past 5 years) much more than the Yankees have. The Yankees did do it with Brackman in 2007 and Cole in 2008....but of course Cole did not sign, so in reality the Yankees have not really been a huge player in getting hugely talented players in the draft solely on their financial muscle. Please provide examples of the Yankees' benefits from the broken draft system or retract. Thank you.

Joba Chamberlain fell to a sandwich pick in 2006 due to injury concerns, not money.

Well, let's start with Derek Jeter, who fell to 6th despite being the best player in the draft.

Phil Hughes with the 23rd pick.

J. Brent Cox in the 2nd round in 2005.

But looking at it, it's not quite as bad as I thought it was.

The Tigers got Porcello and Andrew Miller in 06-07, and I think that's probably worse.

et tu, Joe?

Torre rips ARod and Cash in new book "The Yankee Years"

Joe has always been all class, so I'll wait to hear things in context before jumping to any conclusions.

There's a sign of the times, the Yankees off season thread only gathered ten posts.

Yankees? Eh, who cares...
