Give me a break. TB will shut you out. Seriously, has a playoff team ever garnered less support? What, maybe 15% of Chicago cares about the pale hose and that's about it.
And with Ozzie as your manager, you know you will be out managed, no matter who you face.
You should have had the good grace to lose to Detroit yesterday and saved yourself the embarrassment.
Yea save the embarrassment. Hey let's not make the playoffs so we can save the embarrassment of getting beat in them. Such a dumb comment. Umm wouldn't it be more embarrassing to not make the playoffs? I really hope your a bitter Twins fan Zen. Or even worse you could be a Seattle fan.. Good team over there...

Had we had Liriano just a month earlier, we would have saved you the embarrassment. Have fun watching Vazquez this week. I know the Floridians will.
Had we had Quintin for the past month we wouldn't have came close to needing this game.
See how that works?
Oh Bitterness is so bad. Just go hide in your corner Twinkie Fan....

It seemed pretty obvious tonight that the White Sox miss Quentin's bat. They've got a good lineup, but not nearly as good as it could be. Could also use a Nick Swisher, circa potential.
I think the White Sox are the weakest playoff team this year. They have a few one-dimensional mashers and a couple of decent pitchers having good years. And a closer, I guess.
But they were pretty weak in 2005 and look what happened.

I think you put it perfectly BH. Especially the part about 2005. It is what it is they have nothing to lose now so see what happens.

The 99-win 2005 White Sox were pretty weak? The team 5 well above average starters?

The White Sox were indeed weak. Scott Podsednik? Juan Uribe? 200 plate appearances from Timo Perez? Terrible part time play by Chris Widger, Willie Harris, and Pablo Ozuna?
And don't go overboard praising the pitching: let's look at the K/9 rates for the starters: Garland: 4.68 Buehrle: 5.67 Freddy Garcia: 5.76 Contreras: 6.77
Not so spectacular. The bullpen was good. Dustin Hermanson led with 34 saves and they had Jenks, Politte, Cotts, and Marte. But the team is clearly weak.

The 05 team was not the favorite going in, but what their pitching did in the playoffs will never be accomplished again. It was amazing.

I think it's way cool that the White Sox hung in there, beat the Twins and are now in the playoffs. I actually hope they go all the way. If they do, I hope Rick Rush paints the occasion to add to his awesome collection of baseball prints (www.rickrushart.com).

K-rates? Without other peripherals, those are meaningless. The story of how well a pitcher pitched in a given year can be seen in ERA. Peripherals are for projecting forward.
Podsenik was a more than decent player in 2005. Uribe was a fine defender at SS. Chicago was also a terrific defensive team in 2005. They were far from weak and proved it over the course of a 175 game season, one which they thoroughly dominated at the end.

I was tempted to click on the Rick Rush link, but this seems like a spam attempt, and that's just not right.

Now if baseball's playoffs were the same as the NFL, the White Sox would have a shot. Once a week you could trot Danks out there and you might have a shot.. because you have nothing else.

I wouldn't say Danks is all we have. Buehrle pitched well, and has most of the year, and Floyd has yet to pitch in this postseason, but in the game against Detroit to get to the tie breaker he was on. And in Minnesota he pitched good enough to win, there was just no run support. At home I think he'll get the support to win and force a game 5. Then I think you have to pitch Buehrle on short rest in St. Petersburg. There's still a chance the Sox could take this series.
Don't Stop, BEEEEEELLLLEEEEEEIIIVING!!!

I was at the game yesterday and Floyd didn't look good at all. I really thought Sox were going to force game 5. It was a funny series. I felt the Sox should have won it. They had a lead in every game except game 4. Hats off to Tampa though. The better team won. White Sox had a good season, but it's time to blow it up a bit.

Interesting to see what happens with the Central. Tigers and Indians faltered majorly, Chicago is an older team that had sparks, Twins have younger talent and almost pulled it out, and KC is still young and seems to get better each season. Should be alot of movement.

Sox definitely need to get rid of the DH glut: Dye, Thome, Konerko, Griffey are all getting to the point or at the point where they should not be in the field.
The two things I like about the Sox are Quentin and Ramirez...they are both future stars (actually they probably are already stars). Kenny had a great offseason last year finding those two for basically nothing.

My plan for the White Sox.
Step 1: Trade Javi and Konerko for a decent 4 or 5 pitcher. This needs to be done immediately.
Step 2: Make a run at Brian Roberts. You'll see why in step 3.
Step 3: DON'T RESIGN ORLANDO CABRERA!!! Move Alexei to SS. Cabrera has said he doesn't like the way the Sox were set up and he didn't seem to give a sh*t about the playoffs. But resign Crede if he's cheap. If he's asking for more that 5 mil, let him go.
Step 4: Give Dwayne Wise consistent PT in center, and tell Griffey to please retire. He'd be a decent option in left, but Quentin is there so that's a no go.
Step 5: Find a lefty specialist for the bullpen.
What I envision the Sox to look like in my perfect plan: 1. Brian Roberts, 2B 2. Alexei Ramirez, SS 3. Carlos Quentin, LF 4. Jim Thome, DH 5. Jermaine Dye, RF 6. Nick Swisher, 1B 7. AJ Pier;@#$*@, C 8. Joe Crede/Juan Uribe, 3B 9. Dwayne Wise/Brian Anderson platoon, CF
1. Buerhle 2. Floyd (to break up 2 identical pitchers) 3. Danks 4. Whoever we can get for Javi/Konerko or Contreras 5. Clayton Richards
DO IT KENNY! Knowing how he works it won't look anything like this and he'll be lambasted in March, then in July everyone will be calling for him to be GM of the year, for some diamond in the rough he found.

What about Josh Fields at 3B? Is he still around?
And Javier's got some good left in him - you should probably be happy with him in that #4 slot.

This is just a basic guide for them. I know the team could get a lot better with trades or big time FA"s (Sabathia), but the chances of that happening isn't good.
Key Points
1. Anderson should be one a plane to Mexico right now and getting 10 AB's a day. This guy is all we need in CF. Hit .250 and play 162 games.
2. We have to give Swisher another year. Hopefully last year was a fluke. He was jerked around a lot this past season and was even batting lead off for a while. Hopefully he refreshes in the offseason and comes back full force.
3. Bring Garland back. The guy isn't great, but eats up those precious innings.

Garland? Over Vazquez? You're crazy.
You can easily put Swisher in center and Konerko at 1st. Have you seen Konerko's second half stats?

Williams definitely looking to move Dye...I think Bailey would be a nice return. Sox have been very good about turning around and developing young starters. A starting pitching core of Danks, Floyd, Bailey going forward could be nice...all under ~25 years old.
It is hard not to like what Williams has done the past couple seasons adding young players. Quentin and Ramirez were steals last season. Add Josh Fields to the mix...we should get a full look at him this year. I like Tyler Flowers who they got in the Vazquez trade.
Williams seems like he is trying to rebuild on the fly...I like the young nucleus he is putting together.
