Subject: RIBC 2009: Qualifying Leagues
Posted by: Guru
- [330592710] Tue, Feb 17, 2009, 09:52
Now that the RIBC managers have been named, it is time to work on forming the Qualifying Leagues.
We will again form two AAA leagues, plus as many AA leagues as are necessary to accommodate interested managers. Each league will have 16 managers. The following teams will have first priority in filling the 32 AAA spots:
1. Teams finishing 8-16 in last year’s RIBC. 2. Teams finishing 4-8 in each of the 2008 AAA leagues 3. Teams finishing 2-8 in each of the two 2008 AA leagues
This list comprises the following 32 teams/managers:
RIBC 8-16 (9 teams) Building 7 StLCards Tosh JeffG Flying Polack slackjawed yokel Blue Hen RoBoTsRUs Taxman
AAA 4-8 (9 teams) Nerfherders Athletics Guy gurudan TEh 9erzs (is this R9?) Khahan TD PeterN Fosten Papa
AA 2-8 (14 teams) youngroman Tequila Norfolk Neptunes mjd MBT Outcasts Goldgloves dpr beastiemiked Jaydog Brooklyn BMF Wipe your Pujols The B (o )( o) B's J'Lucky's Nando
In some cases, I’ve simply listed the team name, as I don’t know the manager’s name.
To the extent that we have additional openings for AAA slots, I suggest that we first offer them to teams finishing 9th or 10th in a 2008 AAA league. Those four managers are: Ksoze Valkyrie Aggy's Miracles Bandos
After them, any manager in a 2008 qualifying league may fill a remaining opening, first come, first served. In other words, start a list!
We will also have as many AA leagues as necessary to fulfill the interest. Managers not on the AAA priority list may begin forming those leagues as soon as a Commissioner volunteers.
We do need managers to commish each of the Qualifying Leagues. It will be the first duty of each commish to coordinate the organization of the league. If possible, I’d like to recruit the two AAA commissioners before either of those leagues starts to fill, so that spots in those leagues might be filled simultaneously. We should also get the first AA Commissioner lined up before the first AA league begins to form.
I would prefer that each Qualifying League use the “On the Clock” software at Kafenatid.net for their draft. RotoGuru.com will offer to pay the cost of this for each QL. By using common software for all leagues, it will be easier to produce consolidated draft analysis.
A few notes about responsibilities and expectations are warranted. If you wish to manage a team in a qualifying league, you should be prepared to meet these expectations:
1. You will provide a working email address to your league commish so that you can be reached if needed. You should also check your league thread regularly, both before and during the draft. Nothing slows things down more than a manager who disappears.
2. You will generally be available during your league’s draft period. If your access is going to be limited, you will make reasonable efforts to use draft queues or designated pickers to keep the draft moving along.
3. You will observe appropriate “professional courtesy” and etiquette in all dealings with your commissioner and other managers in your league.
4. You will agree to remain active for the duration of the season. You will not abandon your team – even if early results are disappointing.
Any volunteers for Commissioners? (AAA and AA)

Now that we have a third commish, here's the plan.
JeffG and Judy will be the commissioners for the two AAA leagues. Wolfer will commish the (first) AA league. If there is sufficient interest, we can open a second AA league after the first one fills.
Here is my request for each of the commissioners: 1. Since this forum is more visible (than the leagues & standings forum) for the moment, please set up your league organizing thread in this forum. The primary purpose of that thread will be to get your 16 teams committed, and to make decisions about the start date of your draft, and also your league hosting site (Yahoo, ESPN, or something else). I'll leave it to each league to decide on hosting site.
2. Please register your draft at kafenatid.net. Do not pay for the draft, however - I'll pay for the drafts for all RIBC leagues.
3. Once your league is filled, you can open a new thread in the leagues and standings forum. From that point forward, all league dialogue should take place in that forum.

As of now I believe that I did not finish high enough in AA 2008 to qualify for AAA 2009. However if you go far enough down on the list, I would like to play in AAA; otherwise I am looking forward to Wolfer's AA league.

Looks like some at the top of the list in the current AA list might get into AAA, but time will tell.
Have last year's commish's emailed their managers to remind them that 2009 sign ups are on going? Of the AAA QL, I count 13 (+2 WL) who have not yet checked in. Hopefully they will take a peak at the thread soon.
Maybe if you are NOT planning to play, you could note that here as well.

According to the Forum, here is the current AAA wait list (not pre Q list) order -- (first come, etc) At some point, GURU will declare a hard check in deadline and we can fill in accordingly... By my count, there are 2 spots left in the Int'l League and 9 spots left in the EasterN league for AAA pre Q managers and then it opens up to the wait lists posted below.
BOLD = has checked in for an AAA spot

I'd suggest holding those spots open through the end of Wednesday. After that, remaining openings may be filled from the waiting list.

IHP: I think you are on the correct list.
The "AAA wait list" is only the four teams that finished 9th or 10th in AAA last year. They have first priority in filling vacancies in a AAA league.
If there are still AAA spots open after those four teams are in (or they decline), then priority goes to anyone who played in any AAA or AA league last year, first come, first served. I believe that is essentially the list which is titled "AA wait list". You are 8th on that list, but based on Judy's analysis, it is unlikely that we'll need to go that deep on the list.
That isn't really a wait list for a AA league, as AA leagues are open to anyone. It is a list of those who will be in a AA league unless they get to move up.

I'd like to propose to change the name of the Easter(n) League to the Pacific Coast League. If it's really going to be a Triple-A league, it should have a Triple-A name.
The AA leagues should be Eastern, Southern, and Texas.

[66] Probably a good idea. I did a double-take when I first saw "AAA Eastern league".
The two AAA leagues have typically been named the Pacific Coast League and the International League.

In recent years, we have had a second AA league. It looks like the first AA league might already be full; if not, it's close. We can begin to recruit a second AA league as long as we find a willing volunteer to serve as commissioner.
No prequalifications.
