With two new ballparks opening in NY, I set this page up to share some photos from their grand openings. Please feel free to share your 2009 baseball photos here too.

Not bad. Give a holler when you want to head up for a game.

Nice shots. It looks exactly like Safeco field without the hulking roof, I mean exactly! Except that looked like a June day in Seattle, not March :)

I like the way it fits into the neighborhood seamlessly. When the Mets move to California, you can easily convert the stadium into an auto body shop.

Is that seat in the P-club where you can't see home plate a ticketed seat, or is it someplace you can rest your carcass as you throw back alcohol? I'd be just a bit pissed if I found out that my $30+ seat had me guessing what happened after each pitch, no matter how quickly I got my drinks.

Shea has never looked better.

You think you can get that kind of seat for $30?

The Prominade Club is a members only bar for full season ticket holders who buy the Club seats at that seating level. Club membership is in addition to your seat (Prominade is the Mets new term for Upper Deck, Excelsior is the Mets new term for Mezzanine). Yesterday the club, like most of the premium offerings, was open to the public.

Pricing. Works out to $75 or $60 a game for an 81 game season.

The club is behind the light blue sections in the seating chart

The club is a very nice place, if you want to by a $10+ cocktail, and perhaps for those who can afford it to hang out before the game, or to take a break from the seating bowl. Not really where you want to watch the game. If you are up against the windows facing the field, you cannot see half the infield, further back towards the bar area, you can see even less of the field.

the fact that they have a Shake Shack on site is bad ass...one of my favorite burgers in the City...

Great pics JeffG! Looks like you got around pretty good. I guess the clubhouse was off-limits huh? : > )

SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLAR SEATS?

Those prices are outrageous. Here's to hoping they don't even draw 2 million.

The "Great Hall" looks a lot like an airport. Mussolini would be proud of the outside of the stadium. As much as I like the idea of a fresh fruit bar at a baseball game, don't think I could ever afford to go to a game there. I'm sure the Yank fans love the place (even though they now know how many calories the food contains).

Thanks for the buzz kill in post [12] Seattle Zen, but you are right about one thing. Yankee fans are totally enamored with their new digs. Sure there are many amenities that cater to the 'upscale' clientele, but there are plenty of great add ons for the rank and file, and cutting back by only 2000 in capacity is going to guarantee that the ballpark will still have that buzz from the every day fans that many places that went corporate lost. There are many affordable tickets. Upper seats average $25, bleachers are only $14.

I certainly didn't mean my post to be a buzzkill, Mr. G. I just don't really see the need for an art gallery in a baseball stadium, particularly with such ugly "art".

Monument Park looked very dignified.

I went to the game yesterday (and actually met up with JeffG), and there is both good and bad about New Yankee Stadium.

The short version is that they tried to keep a lot of the legacy alive, while improving the fan experience. In the concourses, this is nice; there is much more space to move around, and far fewer tunnels. The seats are comfortable, with more legroom and cupholders, even in the upper deck. The bathrooms were small, but the entrance was much more open and accessible.

The field itself and the physical structure reminded me of the old stadium. Honestly, looking at the field itself, you can barely tell the difference. Same number of decks, similar facade, Monument Park, etc. I think that was the point, since there's so much Yankee tradition already established. The expensive scoreboard was decent, but not quite as awesome as I expected.

Bottom line, these were necessary upgrades to the old stadium, but not as grandiose as it looks like Citi Field is going to be. I'll have to get to a game there soon.

If anything, those pics show how bad the weather was in NYC
recently.

I went to the game at Yankee Stadium on Friday, and the park is
very nice. I have been to most of the "new" stadiums - Camden
is still the best, while the Jake, Coors, Great American all got the
job done. And I like the Phillies' new home a lot with that huge
concourse behind the 2nd level.

The Yanks built something lots of other teams have in terms of
how "new" it feels, and yet did a great job of putting the Yankee
seal on it with a huge number of historical markers, including
huge banners for old players, a new "Babe Ruth Plaza," and giant
photographs of triumphant moments in the team's history. It is
a success both architecturally and substantively.

On the other hand, the stadium is still in a rundown area of the
city, and nothing about the stadium is a real breakthrough the
way the wave of new parks in the 90s were. It was different than
many of those stadiums in that the franchise viewed the stadium
as an improvement on an existing model rather than a brand
new masterpiece.

All that said, it is a beautiful stadium which both improves the
experience of the fans and reduces the weight of their wallets in
the process.
