Call me a curmudgeon, but Opening Day should be two weeks later. And be in Cincinnati. But Braves at the Phillies tonight. And it isn't a bad night for baseball. |

MLB.com's GameCast is crazy awesome this year. Detailed info on hot/cold zones for pitcher/batter, pitcher velocity, pitch selection, pitch movement, and even release point. Just click the graph for the pitcher or batter and then click around the graphs in the bottom-left. I can't wait to see what it's like several weeks into the season when multi-game tendencies start showing up.

Thanks for the heads up, KKB, I'm checking out Gamecast right now. Unfortunately, they are going to start charging for all these bells and whistles starting April 19th. Maybe if enough people check it out now and then not pay, they will realize how much traffic they are missing.

Meh. It's fun, but I wouldn't pay more than a couple of bucks for it. Even as someone who considers himself way more into stats than the average baseball fan, it just doesn't add that much more value to the experience. Fun? Yes. Value? Not so much.

This didn't deserve it's own thread, but for future reference...
PDF of every team's opening day roster and their 2009 salary.
Yankees - $201 million. Marlins - $36 million.

Pretty sure MLB.com doesn't have a product called "Gamecast." But it is pretty sweet.
