I have had a lot of favorite players in my life: Mike Schmidt, Mike Scott, Andy Van Slyke, Dave Hollins, Jim Thome, Oliver Perez, and Brad Lidge, to name a few.
But none can compare to how I feel about Harry Kalas. For years, he was like a part of my family, the uncle who would tell me all about the baseball games. I came to love that voice and would go out of my way to hear it. In fact, for the 9th inning of the last game of the NLCS, I actually turned on the MLB radio app on my cell phone to listen to Harry call the pennant-winning out.
I'm glad I did. I am deeply saddened today, but I can take solace in the fact that Harry's last season included a World Series victory.
Rest in peace, Harry. I, for one, will miss you.

I will miss him as well.
I am SO glad he got to see the Phillies win the World Series. He was one of a kind. His HR
calls of "OUTTA HERE" will be sorely missed.
Rest in peace Harry, and have some fun up there with "His Whiteness" - Ritchie Ashburn.

I heard him only briefly on strait AM. Made a point of checking him out when GD Audio came online. He was good.
Where he stands as against contemporaries Bob Prince or Harry Caray or Mel Allen or Red Barber I don't know.

My father is something of an authority on Mel Allen and Harry Kalas and he gives it to Harry.

WEEI Radio in Boston is reporting that Mark "The Bird" Fidrych has died at age 54, found underneath his pickup truck in Northborough, Massachusetts.
That's three within a week. Enough already.

Very sad. I can hear his: "And its outta here!" echoing my head from many games at the Vet and citizens bank ballpark and I don't know how many games I heard on the radio.

listening to the Phillies games on the TV and the radio will not be the same without Harry doing the play by play. I have listened to him since I can remember watching baseball. You could tell during the Phillies game today the other announcers were struggling to keep there composure.

Sad time indeed. I've been listening to Harry since he first came over to Philly. I remember many a night listening to Harry Kalas call the game on the radio.
He died doing what he loved.
