Today I am formally announcing a new affiliated site, DailyBaseballData.com. This site is a collaboration of RotoGuru and DraftBug.com, intended to focus on tools to support the analysis of daily lineup decisions – not only for daily contest sites such as DraftBug, but also for games which allow significant flexibility in setting daily rosters, or even for typical play/bench decisions for your traditional roto team. While most of the initial tools have previously been available to RotoGuru users, our first unique tool is the Weather Dashboard, which consolidates weather forecast information for all of a day’s games onto a single page. Whether you’re looking for rain probabilities, temperature, or wind speed and direction, this is the place. You should no longer need to labor through a multiple-click drill just to ferret out all of this information.

We have a number of ideas on the drawing board for future tools, and they’ll be released in the coming weeks as they are developed. We figure that if we want to get you to try out daily contests like DraftBug, we should also do our best to arm you with a range of tools designed to help you succeed!

I added links to the new site from the baseball forum dropdown menus.

Love, love, love the site so far. I especially like the weather info just being a click away and I find the pitcher vs. batter info to be quite useful.

Excellent idea of collaborating Guru!

The new site has been getting some good feedback and some nice referrals at a number of other baseball sites.

It's quite possible that we'll attract some new traffic to this forum as well, and if so, that will be a nice side effect. Please be on your best behavior!

Minor but potentially significant discrepancy on the weather page, which indicates, "Because Minute Maid Park has a dome, weather details are not relevant."

Minute Maid Park has a retractable roof:

Minute Maid Park's retractable roof technology brought open-air baseball to Houston for the first time in 35 years, and the natural grass surface and classic architecture provided Minute Maid Park the atmosphere of the great ballparks of baseball's Golden age ... The roof at Minute Maid Park, however, retracts completely off the ballpark to reveal the largest open area of any retractable roofed baseball stadium in existence today. A total of 50,000 square feet of glass in the west wall of the retractable roof give fans a view of the Houston skyline, even when the roof is in the closed position.

Copied from today's blurb:
Today, we’re unveiling a new tool at DailyBaseballData.com. Listed as the first entry under the “Other Tools” menu, it is called the Lineup Dashboard. This program consolidates all lineup and boxscore data for the day’s games on a single page. That, in itself, may or may not be useful to you. But the pièce de résistance is the consolidation of hitting lineup data at the bottom of the page, called Who’s Hittin’, and Who’s Sittin’. This shows all hitters that have appeared in a starting lineup or a game boxscore, sorted alphabetically by team – and also lists all hitters who have not (yet) appeared! For this latter category, all hitters who have been on the active roster at some time in the prior 7 days are considered. Those who are currently not on the active list are preceded by an asterisk. So this tool can be helpful in several respects:
  1. You can quickly see which of your players are in the starting lineups without having to go through a series of individual game links, and
  2. You can easily see which players are on the bench, and also identify which of those guys have been deactivated (sent down, put on the DL, etc.)
Admittedly, before any lineups are announced, this report is pretty uninteresting – but check it out once game data becomes available. Yahoo.com is current the sole source of lineup and boxscore data, so player data should start to appear once Yahoo publishes the first pregame lineups. Active roster data is pulled from mlb.com.

As is often the case with new programs, there may still be some minor bugs or tweaks that need to be addressed. But it seemed to work well yesterday, so we might as well take it public today and see how it goes. Feel free to send me any comments or ideas you have.

Worst Baseball Weather Today (6/24/09): Dolphin Stadium, Citi Field

Another weather page note ... Dolphin Stadium was renamed in early May (change lasts through the end of the 2009 NFL season).

We added a new tool today - the Bullpen Usage report.

This summarizes, on a single page, the recent usage stats - including pitch count and inning entered - for all active relievers, sorted alphabetically by team. You can choose any summary lookback period from 1-7 days (default is 4). And you can click on any reliever's name to get more detailed game data for the past 7 days.

You can use this to screen for pitchers with heavy usage who might be likely to sit out a game. And you can use it to screen for potential changes in usage situations, particularly for teams where the closer is not settled.

If you have other ideas for enhancements to this tool, speak up.
