0 Subject: TSN data problem

The program that I use to collect TSN player data - prices & position updates - stopped working last night. I do not know why, although when this has happened on a couple occasions in the past, it has also mysteriously cleared itself up within 24 hours.

While it is not working, I cannot update player prices or positions in my database. In addition, the Assimilator will be unable to copy in rosters directly from the TSN site.

I cannot give a projected recovery time, because I do not understand the cause of the problem.

Upon further research, it looks like TSN has changed the mechanics of the login process. Thus far, I haven't been able to figure out how to get it to work from my server. But it doesn't look like it's going to clear up by itself.

Ugh.

With some expert assistance from youngroman, I think I have solved the login problem.

Unfortunately, I have to go out for a few hours, so I won't be able to update my database until later this afternoon.

I should put youngroman on the RotoGuru payroll. I could pay him twice what I pay myself! Of course, if I did that, the total payroll still wouldn't change...

thanks for the offer. I am considering it. the offered pay is priceless.

a little background why I think TSN changed the login: Security! until now the login was based on user/pass in the query-string of the url. this query-string is often stored in log-files or cached on proxies, so the login-credentials can be seen by the administrators of those servers. the new login is based on a html-form where user/pass is transmitted in the content of the page, which is rarely written to a log.

what I don't understand is that such a "huge" company like TSN isn't using https for their site, or at least for their login. it usually takes no time and nearly no costs to set this up and improves security by a ton.

but thats only my view as a member of our Application Security Competence Center.
