0 Subject: custom cheatsheets

Posted by: wiggs - [35149919] Wed, Feb 17, 2010, 15:55

Does anyone have any good custom baseball cheat sheets? I bought 1 last year and did not like it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

mockdraftcentral has them for free. I think you can get a free trial to rotowire for 10 days, also.

I think rotowire is worth it. They have a variety of different cheatsheets for different formats, and an ability to customize as well.

Of course, it was more of an advantage when everyone and their grandma didn't also subscribe. ;)

They are a bit spotty on their projections and sometimes have their favorites that they are too optimistic about upside-wise, but they give you a decent framework.

When I have time, I download their raw stats and tweak them to suit my more realistic beliefs.

There is a bit of a competition on the ultra-geek level between different stat-heads and how well their projections pan out, and I don't recall rotowire doing so hot.

It's been a few years since I bothered to look, however. Rotowire and a nice, easy format, and close enough to give you a ballpark idea of where to rank dudes.

har har, bili.

Actually, I think Guru is also a member. I'd just as soon see any credit go to him. I just gave him a heads up on this thread so he can pop in.

Actually, my RotoWire subscription is part of RotoPass, so getting separate credit for RotoWire doesn't really get me anything. Go ahead and use Perm Dude.

I am just getting used to the rotowire site. Is there a way I can create a custom cheat sheet for roto scoring? I found it for a points league, but nothing for roto. any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Since Wiggs already got his info, I want to hijack this thread just a little bit and get a discussion going on fantasy websites.

What sites do you all feel provide the best info/projections/etc?

Rotowire has always been my favorite, but I have to be honest I have never taken the time to check back at the end of the year to see the hit/miss ratio of their projections.

I know Rotoworld, FanBall, ESPN are favorites of friends.

What do you guys think?

I've used Baseball HQ and I have to say I didn't care for it at all. The depth of knowledge is great, but it's almost too deep. By the time I'm done with half of the articles I'm more confused than when I started.

Yahoo's good for info, especially when you are using their site to host a league.

I've just recently started looking at ESPN and it seems to be pretty strong. Good analysis, but not so in depth that you feel overwhelmed.

Most of the projections whether its Baseball Prospectus, BHQ,
Rotoworld, Bill James or CBS are generally very similar. I haven't
in the past found one of them to be more accurate. However
they always have a few interesting differences which are
intriguing. Here are a few of my observations:
This year BHQ are more bullish on Martin Prado, Cano,
Zimmerman, Hunter (always a favorite), Lind, Kelly Johnson,
Furcal, Wagner, Wandy Rodriguez, Harang and Brett Anderson.
They are down on Jason Bay, Russell Martin, Chris Davis, J.
Sanchez and N. Feliz.
Bill James is positive on Beckham, Bay, Berkman, Kyle Banks, Jay
Bruce, Chris Davis, Manny Ramirez, Reimhold, Carlos Santana,
Stubbs (projects 51 SBs), Carpenter and Webb.
Baseball Prospectus are bullish on McLouth, Adam Jones, Jay
Bruce, Markakis, Bourn and Scherzer. They are relatively
negative on Jason Bay, Johan Santana, J. Sanchez, A. Soriano,
Slowey, Kazmir and Tim Hudson.

I'd add that Baseball Prospectus is head over heals crazy for Prince Fielder. For the first time I've ever seen, they predicting a player will hit 50 homers - Prince will hit 51 by their estimation. Hell, last year their top HR prediction was a mere 40 dingers for Ryan Howard.

In 2010 their own overall player statistic, VORP, they predict Prince will be slightly better than Pujols. Wow.
