0 Subject: RIBC 2010: Qualifying Leagues

Posted by: Guru
- [330592710] Thu, Feb 18, 2010, 14:20

Now that the RIBC managers have been named, it is time to work on forming the Qualifying Leagues.

We will again form two AAA leagues, plus as many AA leagues as are necessary to accommodate interested managers. Each league will have 16 managers. The following teams will have first priority in filling the 32 AAA spots:

1. Teams finishing 8-16 in last year’s RIBC.
2. Teams finishing 4-8 in each of the 2009 AAA leagues
3. Teams finishing 2-8 in each of the two 2009 AA leagues

In addition, I have reserved a spot for Taxman, who qualified for a AAA spot last season, but was left out due to an administrative snafu.

This list comprises the following 32 teams/managers:

RIBC 8-16 (10 teams)
Uptown Bombers
Da Bomb
Rheo
Philly Phanatic
Bags
Dror
coldwater coyotes
JKaye
Vampireweekend
Taxman (holdover from prior year)

AAA 4-8 (9 teams)
Nerfherders
Robots RUs
Blue Hen
Team russell
Building 7
Adam
mjd
youngroman
Flying Polack

AA 2-8 (13 teams)
Toral
ywk
Wazaaap Guy
revingparson
I Hate Philly
Aman
kokeshis
Donkey Hunters
graydog
Electro
Rotten Amoebas
Pancho Villa
Bean

In some cases, I’ve simply listed the team name, as I don’t know the manager’s name.

To the extent that we have additional openings for AAA slots, I suggest that we first offer them to teams finishing 9th or 10th in a 2009 AAA league. Those four managers who have waiting list priority are:
9th: Fosten, Mudge n Bando
10th: gurudan, Century City Centaur

After them, any manager in a 2009 qualifying league may fill a remaining AAA opening, first come, first served. In other words, start a waiting list!

We will also have as many AA leagues as necessary to fulfill the interest. Managers not on the AAA priority list may begin forming those leagues as soon as a Commissioner volunteers.

We do need managers to commish each of the Qualifying Leagues. It will be the first duty of each commish to coordinate the organization of the league. If possible, I’d like to recruit the two AAA commissioners before either of those leagues starts to fill, so that spots in those leagues might be filled simultaneously. We should also get the first AA Commissioner lined up before the first AA league begins to form. If we do not have two AAA-prequalified volunteers to commish the two AAA leagues, I may elevate a non-qualifier to fill one of those roles.

I would prefer that each Qualifying League use the “On the Clock” software at Kafenatid.net for their draft. RotoGuru.net will pay the cost of this for each QL. By using common software for all leagues, it will be easier to produce consolidated draft analysis.

A few notes about responsibilities and expectations are warranted. If you wish to manage a team in a qualifying league, you should be prepared to meet these expectations:

1. You will provide a working email address to your league commish so that you can be reached when needed. You should also check your league thread regularly, both before and during the draft. Nothing slows things down more than a manager who disappears.

2. You will generally be available during your league’s draft period. If your access is going to be limited, you will make reasonable efforts to use draft queues or designated pickers to keep the draft moving along.

3. You will observe appropriate “professional courtesy” and etiquette in all dealings with your commissioner and other managers in your league.

4. You will agree to remain active for the duration of the season. You will not abandon your team – even if early results are disappointing.

Any volunteers for Commissioners? (AAA and AA)

I forgot to mention that each Commissioner may choose the hosting site for his/her league. Last year, we had QLs use both Yahoo and ESPN. Either of those options is fine, and each is free. The hosting site should be chosen before managers sign up for a league, so that managers know where the league will be situated.

Thanks for all the quick offers for commissioners.

The four league commissioners (and their respective hosting sites) will be:

AAA
I Hate Philly (ESPN)
Judy (Yahoo)

AA
wolfer (ESPN)
Mike V (Yahoo)

I have asked each of those four commissioners to start a league sign-up thread in this forum. Regardless of whether you have already posted above, you must now choose one of the leagues and sign up in that thread. If you are on the waiting list for a AAA league, please sign up for a AA league now. If a spot opens for someone on the waiting list, he/she can move up at that time.

When you sign up in a league thread, make sure you provide a working email address to your commissioner so that you can be contacted as needed.

As a courtesy to those who participated last year, if anyone has access to email lists for last year's QL leagues, please send out an email notice asking them to either sign up or decline. This is especially useful for those who are qualified for AAA, so that they are able to get into a league before those reserved spots are given away to those on a waiting list.

Uptown Bombers has been promoted to the RIBC. But Judy effectively fills his vacated AAA slot, as commish. So the promotion does not open up a waiting list spot yet.

For the AAA leagues, it looks like we still need to hear from:

Rheo
Bags
JKaye
Taxman
Robots
Russell
Flying Pollack
Rotten A
Pancho V

On the priority wait list, the missing includes just:
Mudge

Maybe last year's commishes could email these folks to see if they plan to play this year...

If you are on the above lists and are NOT planning to play, please let us know!!

The Non AAA Q list by FCFS seems to be:
Wolfer (commishing AA ESPN)
Wiggs
GO
Ksoze
Matt G

Is there a cut off date for bumping up the wait listers -- maybe Monday night March 1 at
midnight EST? The two AAA teams seem to be "stuck" at 11 and 12 teams confirmed.

Thanks.

AAA ESPN has 3 openings

re AAA priority list (it looks like Fosten and gurudan are going to make it):

1. Fosten -- prefers ESPN
2. gurudan -- no preference
3. century city - valkyrie -- prefers Yahoo
4. mudge and bandos -- I've emailed Bandos but he has not checked in anywhere that I have noted.

I believe that Taxman has some family health issues to deal with, and may not be available for this season. But I'd like to give him until the end of today to appear.

Meanwhile, you can go ahead and enroll Fosten in ESPN, and Valkyrie in Yahoo. If Taxman appears, he can choose the last spot in either league. If he does not appear, then wolfer can claim the final spot and choose his system. Gurudan would then take the other open spot.

Wolfer is already serving as Commish of a AA ESPN league, which he will retain. So I'm guessing he'll prefer ESPN for his AAA league as well.

Guru are there rules behind when we start our draft. I was thinking about giving the league 2 options. One to start March 8th with a 6 hour clock, or March 15th with a shorter clock.

Thoughts?

Up to your league. I will probably start the RIBC on March 15 with a 6 hour clock.

You can always start with one clock setting, and then shorten it as the draft moves on, if needed.

We did it last year without a clock and only stumbled once when a two guys were running one of the teams
and each thought the other was supposed to make the pick.

We will start Yahoo untimed and see how it goes. Once the draft order is set, the draft will be
"open", but we will establish the expected first date ahead of time -- probably March 15th.
